Procedure

Toll-free numbers are special numbers that allow callers to reach businesses and/or individuals without being charged for the call. They are usually used by organizations that wish to make it easier for users to make contact with them. The charge for using a toll-free number is paid by the called party instead of the caller.

Apply In Person:

1. This service is offered by all mobile communication operators company in Botswana including the following; Mascom Wireless Botswana, Orange Botswana, and BTC Mobile Botswana, which are registered, licensed and regulated by the Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) Office. 2. To register for the Toll-Free Number service, one is required to visit any preferable Mobile communication provider agent shops/ customer care outlets and other Points of Sale around the country; near you and present the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page for processing.
3. Applicants are advised to visit several service providers, before making their decision, so as to compare rates, features that come with the service, and the service quality.
4. The applicant is issued a toll-free registration form to complete, and attach the supporting documentation as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page, to the customer care desk.
5. Most telephone service providers will permit the applicant to choose their own toll-free number. If it is available, which shall be linked to the landline.
6. The applicant will be required to pay a prescribed connection fee, for businesses/companies that do not have an already existing landline.
7. Telephone service providers will allocate the new toll-free number to an existing line since they need to be routed to existing phone lines.
8. The client will be required to pay the prescribed connection fee.
9. Two copies of the contract will be drawn up and signed by both the customer care officer and the applicant. One copy is issued to the client and the other copy is retained by the customer care desk for filing.

Please Note:

• That some of the telecommunication service providers operating, the application can be submitted online.
• Visit the telecommunication service provider website that you prefer and fill the application via their online platform if available. Examples of such a service provider that offer online application submission are Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC).
• Most telephone service providers, charge a post-Payment package for this service.

• Proof of identification: Copy of ID/passport (including valid work permit, residence permit)
• Business/Company Registration Certificate.
• Copy of your most recent payslip and three months’ bank statements.
• Any other supporting documentation as requested by the service provider.

Eligibility

• All citizens/non-citizens and businesses/companies that are registered in Botswana.
• Emergency response units.

Fees

• Applicant should visit or call any of the services provider branch offices for more inquiries on the recommended fees for registering a toll-free number
• The fee varies according to the telephone service provider chosen.

Validity

• The service doesn’t expire as long as the client/user makes bill payments.
