Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. For one to apply for a Doctor or Dentist General Practicing license, one needs to be registered as a Doctor or Dentist with the Botswana Health Professions Council, which is under the Ministry of Health and awareness (MoH).MoHMap Location &Contact Details
2. The application shall be made in writing, using a prescribed form as determined by the Botswana Health Professions Council, copies of the application forms are obtainable at the Botswana Health Professions Council office.
3. Submit the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, in addition to the duly completed application form in all respect to the Botswana Health Professions Council, registrar’s office. Any omission of these documents will render the application process incomplete.
4. Upon submission, the application is checked for completeness and correctness by the registrar, if everything is in order the application is registered for processing and consideration.
5. Pay the applicable fees as per the council's preferable mode of payment, and present the proof of payment to be verified by the registrar, the applicant will be issued with a payment receipt and an acknowledgment slip as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
6. After processing which is within 7 working days, the registrar, shall upon satisfied that the applicant is registered as a Doctor or Dentist, with the Botswana Health Professions Council, issue to the applicant, the Practicing license subject to such conditions as it may deem fit.
7. While collecting the license the applicant will be required to produce proof of identity, payment slip and the acknowledgement slip to be validated by the registrar at the Botswana Health Professions office.
8. A practicing certificate/license issued shall specify the address of the principal place of practice and all other places of the practice of the professional Doctor or Dentist to whom the practicing certificate is issued.

Eligibility

Registered doctors or dentist with a valid registration certificate from the Botswana Health Professions Council.

Fees

Validity

• A practicing certificate/license shall be valid for a period of 12 months from the date of issue unless suspended, cancelled, or revoked by the council.
• The license should be renewed at least thirty days before it expires.
