Botswana - Obtain a Certificate of Permanent Residence

Apply In Person:

  1. To obtain a certificate of permanent residence, those eligible should visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship headquarter office , which is housed at the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration, and Gender Affairs office or the nearest Regional or district Immigration Offices.   2. Applicants are require to collect the permanent residence application form, obtainable at any of the immigration offices. For security reasons, the form can only be filled in the presence of a consular officer. The form cannot be taken out of the office.
  3. The completed form attached to the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” of this page should be submitted to the section responsible for processing.
  4. Upon receipt of the application file the immigration officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documentation have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, if everything is in the order you will be required to pay the application fee at the cash counter.
  5. It is only after the deposit of the complete file and the payment of the required fees of BWP 3000.00, and present the payment receipt to be validated by the immigration officer that;

  7. The applicant biometric data {photograph, fingerprint} will then be taken by the immigration officer, the application file will be registered and recorded and the applicant is issued an acknowledgment letter/waiting card as proof of submission of the application.
  8. Applicants wishing to tract the progress of their application after submission can do so via phone.
  9. All application files will then be forwarded to a centralized production center for assessment and processed.
  10. Upon completion of the evaluation process, which is usually within 6 months , a notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the client by letter.
  11. If successful the certificate of permanent residence is returned to the immigration office, where the application was filed to be issued/ collected by the client against the approval letter and identification document.

  • Two recent coloured passport size photos per applicant
  • Certified marriage certificate if applicable

  • Proof of means of support in Botswana
  • Most recent month’s bank statement

  • Certified educational certificates of the highest level of education obtained

  • Wages sheet of employees which indicates the duration of employment of   employees
  • Certified copies of identity cards for citizen employees
  • Submit valid and certified copies of the following:
    • Valuation of shares.
    • Share certificate.
    • Certificate of incorporation.
    • Form 2 - List of directors.
    • Current year’s financial statements.
    • Title deed/lease agreement of business premise(s).
    • Trading license.
    • Most recent year’s tax return.

Non-citizens who meet the following criteria are eligible for this service.

  • Resided lawfully in Botswana continuously for at least 5 years
  • Be of good character
  • Have made significant contributions to Botswana
  • Be of good standing in the society
  • Have enough means to support oneself and dependents

  • The cost associated with this service is BWP 3000.00 per applicant.



ValidityEdit

  • The certificate is valid forever unless suspended, cancelled or revoked by the Authority responsible.
