Procedure

How to apply:

1. You should contact the Diamond Office (address provided below) for more information on how to file the application with them.
2. Submit supporting documents to the Diamond Office in four hard copies either in person or via mail.
3. Once the documents are received by the office, there will be verified and processed and if the authorized official is satisfied that all the documents are in order the licence is approved, you will be notified by mail or phone.
4. You will then be issued the licence at the Diamond Office upon proving proof of payment for the licences fee issued by the Department of Mines.

Required Documents

• Certified copies of Omang/passport.
• Certification of incorporation in Botswana.
• Shareholders certificates from the Registrar of Companies (Form 2).
• List of Directors from Registrar of Companies (Form 13).
• Company structure or organization chart.
• Audited Financial Reports proving financial competence for the previous three years (companies only).
• Proof of Technical competence of the technical team. This includes resumes of the technical team on expertise and experience in diamond valuation and grading.
• Financial credentials or financial backing from a bank or financial institution.
• Rough supply agreements or proof of continuous rough supply.
• Affidavits proving no criminal records and police clearance for shareholders and directors.
• Affidavit proving no bankruptcy for shareholders.
• Business Plan.

Eligibility

All citizens, residents, non-citizens and businesses who meet the following criteria qualify for this service.

• Possess the financial strength to effectively run the business.
• Possess sufficient background understanding of the rough diamond trading industry.
• Possess technical competence in rough diamond grading and valuation

Fees

There is an annual fee of BWP 500.00 due at the time of collection of the licence and on each subsequent anniversary date of licence collection.

Validity

• The licence is valid for one year
