Botswana - Obtain Interstate Movement Permit for Dogs and Cats

Apply In Person:
- Interested applicants are required to visit the nearest District Animal Production (DAP) Office with relevant supporting documents to apply for the interstate Movement permit for Dogs and Cats. District Animal Production (DAP) Office Contact Details
- The applicant is issued the Import Permit of Live Animal(s), Animal Product(s), and Animal Feed(s) application form to complete, copies of this form are not available online.
- Upon obtaining the appropriate application form, the applicant should legibly complete the form, attach all relevant supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit them for processing.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the licensing officer will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
- where the licensing officer is satisfied that the applicant has provided him with all the required information, documentation and certifies that the applicant is a fit and proper person, he shall approve the issue of the permit. Submit the pets to the office for inspection before issuance of the permit.
- No fees are charged for the insurance of the permit, and the time frame for processing the license is within a day.

- Valid National Identity Card (Omang)
- Non-citizens need to have a valid passport/ Resident Permit.
- Valid rabies immunization record (For dogs and cats)
- Kittens and puppies under 3 months old (Proof that the mother (dam) was vaccinated against at least one month but not more than 12 months prior to giving birth
- Proof that there are no movement restrictions for rabies control in your origin area.
- Any other supporting documentation as requested by the Authority.

- Citizens and non-citizens legally resident in Botswana are eligible to apply.
FeesEdit
- No fees are charged for the Issuance of the permit.
ValidityEdit
- The validity of the permit shall be mentioned on the document and shall remain valid for that stipulated time frame unless suspended, cancelled or evoked by the Authority.
- For renewal of the permits, the client must return the previous permit before renewal or issuance of subsequent permits, and the product or animal clear details must be provided as well as the quantity.

- This permit is issued in order to achieve country-wide traceability of the animals to prevent transferable animal diseases.

The Purpose of this Licence/permit is to control disease in Botswana.
- Dogs require vaccination against distemper, hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvo-virus, and rabies. It should have been done not less than 30 days prior to arrival at any point of entry into Botswana.
- Cats require vaccinations against Feline Enteritis and rabies. It should have been done not less than 30 days prior to arrival at any point of entry into Botswana.
Cancellation of the permit
A permit may at any time be cancelled by any inspecting officer.
- In case of any outbreak of disease, inspecting officers shall cancel or alter all permits as may be necessary.
- A permit shall accompany all animals or carcasses while being moved and shall be produced on the demand of any inspecting or police officer or of any person in occupation of the land through which they are being moved
