1. The Ministry of Health & Awareness (MoH), Department of Public Health office with the aid of public and private registered hospitals and clinics offers services such as Primary Health Care Services that include Immunizations and Child Care services. MoH Contact & Map Details
2. The aim of availing easy access to Immunizations and Child Care services to the general public is to protect the child from the most common ailments that attack children while growing up like; pneumonia, bloodstream infections, meningitis, and other serious infections.
3. If the birth is at the hospital, within hours of birth, children will get a shot of the hepatitis B vaccine. From around 2 and half months of age to 5 years, children could get as many as five separate shots containing seven vaccines accompanied with Oral Vaccines.
4. In case of home delivery, the Parent/ guardian of the child should visit the nearest clinic with the child to access such services.
5. Submit the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, to the clinic registry office, the child will be registered, administered the vaccine either (injected or oral), the parent or guardian of the child will be issued with an immunization card that will be updated by a certified medical practitioner occasionally after the child has received various vaccines.
6. The MoH has also introduced Vaccination programs in schools or organized child care centers are multicomponent interventions delivered on-site to improve immunization rates in children and adolescents. These programs include two or more of the following components:
   • Immunization education and promotion
   • Assessment and tracking of vaccination status
   • Referral of under-immunized school or child care center attendees to vaccination providers
   • Provision of vaccinations
7. During such countrywide Vaccination programs, the MoH will advertise through various media the particulars of the vaccination program i.e. dates when the program will commence and end, type of vaccine, the age of child that will be vaccinated, the importance of the vaccine, etc., and will deploy registered health officer to administer the vaccine either at schools, clinics or door to door home visit.

Ministry Business hours: Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-1:00 pm and 2:00 pm -5:00 pm, closed during Public Holidays.

NOTE: Hours of Operation: Public Clinics operate weekdays from 7.30 am to 4.30 pm with a nurse on call available after hours, weekends and holidays. Some public clinics operate 24 hours.

Eligibility

• All newborns and children in Botswana are eligible to obtain the services.

Fees

• General consultation for locals in government/public clinics is 5 Pula. Children under five years of age and elders above 65 years do not pay consultation fees.

Validity

• Most of the vaccines are administered once in the child's lifetime but other vaccines like the flu vaccine are administered yearly.
