Botswana - Obtain Export Licence (Permit) for Animal Hides and Skin

Procedure

Apply In Person:

1. The application for an Export Licence (permit) for Animal Hides and Skin shall be made to the Department of Veterinary Office, which is under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security office. Department of Veterinary District Office
2. The application shall be made in writing using a prescribed application form obtainable at any of the Department of Veterinary District Office, or download the Export of Animals or Animal products permit form using this Application form for Export of Animals or Animal products permit
3. Submit the completed application form, attached to the relevant supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, to the Department of Veterinary District Office for consideration.
4. Upon submission, the application is checked for completeness and correctness by the licensing officer, if everything is in order the application is processed.
5. After processing which in a day, the licensing office, shall where it is satisfied that an application meets the requirements for the issuance of the permit, approve the application and preapare the permit, that shall be subjected to such conditions as it may deem fit.
6. A person whose application for a permit has been approved, shall while collecting the permit, produce their identification document and pay a permit fee specified against the permit he/she applies for.

Please note: For the exportation of wild animals and trophies, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks is the authority responsible for processing and issue of the export permit.

Required Documents

• Duly completed and signed, Application form for Export of Animals or Animal products permit
• For the exportation of wild animals and trophies the Department of Wildlife and National Parks need to be contacted for clearance and permits before a VEP can be issued
• Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) Certificate for products that require a compliance certificate before they are imported into Botswana.
• Export health certificate issued by Department of Veterinary.
• Any other documents that may be requested by the Authority.

Eligibility

• Registered Livestock Keeper (citizens and non-citizens legally resident in Botswana)
• Unregistered keepers (Diplomats, Tourists, researchers)

Fees

• The applicant will be issued with an Invoice to make payment against.

Validity

• The validity of the export permit is mentioned on the permit and shall be for an consignment, the permit shall remain valid for that stipulated period, unless cancelled or suspended or revoked by the Authority.

• Type of animals or products, quantity to be imported/exported
• Signature of the applicant
• Physical Address, email, and phone of the applicant
• Declaration by the applicant

Need for the Document

• This Permit allows clients to export animals products, hides and skin for research, trade purposes, etc. out of the country in order to achieve country-wide traceability of the commodities.
