Apply In-Person

  1. You should contact the Office of Accountant General, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for more information on how to file the application.
  2. You should then visit the District Commissioners office near you, with all the requirements and verbally request for assistance to how file for the application at the service desk.
  3. Fill in the application form, attach all the required documents and submit them for verification and processing
  4. If the district commissioner is satisfied that you have complied with the all conditions as set for the application and all the documents are in order, he or she will sends advice to the Accountant General for payment giving full particulars to you (beneficiary).
  5. The department responsible for compensation will therefore prepare the payment voucher and arranges for payment.

Required DocumentsEdit

Deceased Estates

  • Three certified copies of the death certificate.
  • The beneficiary and three witnesses must present themselves before the customary court. The role of the three witnesses is to confirm the person who claims to be the beneficiary is indeed the rightful person to claim the money.
  • Proof of identification letter from customary court indicating that the beneficiary is the rightful person to claim the money. Witness information details must be included in the letter together with three certified copies of each witness' and beneficiary's identification documents.
  • Letter from District Commissioner confirming that the beneficiary is the rightful person to claim the money.
  • Certified copy of marriage certificate if the beneficiary is a spouse of the deceased.

Workmen's compensation for injured workers

  • Three certified copies of the Omang Card.
  • Banking statement of an active bank account.
  • Industry number (Workers number) and passport number for proof of identification.

  • Above 21 years of age.
  • Have been or currently employed by a mine in South Africa.
  • The beneficiary of the deceased.

  • Benefits will be issued to workers of the mine or beneficiaries of a person working in the mine, In the case of accidents causing injuries or death while working in the mines,
  • Injured workers or the next of kin of deceased workers are entitled to receive money from the government's Deceased Estates and Workmen's Compensation Account.
  • Deceased estate refers to those mine workers who used to work in South African mines but have died in mining related accidents.
  • Workmen's compensation is for mine workers who used to work in the South African mines and incurred injuries.
