Apply In-Person

  1. For one to apply for a Para-Professional Veterinary Practicing license either as a Technologist or Technician,one needs to be registered as a Para-Professional Veterinary Surgeon (Technologist or Technician) with the Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council, housed at the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), which is under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security.Ministry Contact Details
  2. The application shall be made in writing, using a prescribed form as determined by the Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council, copies of the application forms are obtainable at the DVS office.
  3. Submit the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, in addition to the duly completed application form in all respect to the Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council registrar's office. Any omission of these documents will render the application process incomplete.
  4. Upon submission, the application is checked for completeness and correctness by the registrar, if everything is in order the application is registered for processing and consideration.
  5. Pay the applicable fees as per the council's preferable mode of payment, and present the proof of payment to be verified by the registrar, the applicant will be issued with a payment receipt and an acknowledgment slip as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
  6. After processing which is within 7 working days, the registrar, shall upon satisfied that the applicant is registered as a Para-Professional veterinary surgeon, with theVeterinary Surgeons Council, issue to the applicant, the Veterinary Surgeon Practicing license subject to such conditions as it may deem fit.
  7. While collecting the license the applicant will be required to produce proof of identity, payment slip and the acknowledge slip to be validated by the registrar at the DVS office.
  8. A practicing license issued shall specify the address of the principal place of practice and all other places of the practice of the professional Veterinary Surgeon to whom the practicing certificate is issued.

EligibilityEdit

Registered Veterinary Para-professional (Technician or technologist) with a valid registration certificate from the Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council.

ValidityEdit

  • A practicing license shall be valid for a period of 12 months from the date of issue unless suspended, cancelled, or revoked by the council.
  • The license should be renewed at least thirty days before it expires.
