Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. One should contact and Visit the Department of International Trade or any Department for Cooperative Development offices near you for consultation, and request for assistance from the authorized officer on how to apply for the permit.
2. Accurately fill out the application form, which can be obtain from the any of the above offices or click the link below to download Files
3. Attach all required documents copies to the form, and submit them for verification and processing,
4. Pay the permit processing fee
5. If the director or authorized officer is satisfied that you have complied with the all conditions as set for the application of the permit he or she will issue you with the permit
6. You will also be issued with a Permanent reference number, which is given to each importer when the first application is made. The reference number is to be used in future import permit application.

Appeal:

A person aggrieved by the refusal of the Director or the authorized official, to issue that person with an import permit may appeal to the Minister within 30 days of receiving the Director's decision.

• Valid copies of Trade Licence/Hawkers’ Licence/manufacturing licence (indicating that applicant is licenced to trade in the commodity imported)
• Identification documents
• Complete import permit application form

Instructions

An import permit shall not be required for the importation, by any person, of

• An amount not exceeding 6 loaves of bread per week; or
• An amount not exceeding 5 kg of pie pastries per week.
