- The Disconnection of Electricity Supply in a particular region/area or a specific premise shall be carried out by the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), upon request by the owner/landlord of the premises or in the case where the BPC see the need to disconnect the supply. - The following scenarios may lead to the disconnection of the electricity supply;
- when conditions are found to exist in an electrical installation which in the opinion of the Corporation constitute a danger or potential danger to any person or property or interfere with the supply to any other consumer, the Corporation may at any time without notice disconnect the supply to that installation or any part thereof until such conditions have been remedied or removed.
- the Corporation may without notice temporarily discontinue the supply to any electrical installation to effect repairs or make inspections or tests or for any other purpose connected with its supply main or other works.
- The Corporation shall disconnect the electricity supply, upon request by the consumer who has an account with the BPC.
- In the case where the consumer request for the disconnection of the supply, the request shall be made using a prescribed form, obtainable at any of the BPC customer care offices. Copies of this form are not available online.
- Submit the completed form in all respect and the relevant should documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” Section of this page, to any BPC customer care office, regardless of the location of the premises where power is required. Any omission of the supporting documents or information will render the application process incomplete.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the customer care officer will verify if all the information and documentation are in order, before submitting the request for assessment and processing by the BPC technical team.
- Applicants will be issued with a BPC acknowledge receipt, this receipt will serve as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
- The technical team will be sent to the premise where the services are required and the electricity supply will be disconnected.
- In the case where the corporation sees the need to disconnect the supply due to various reasons, consumers within the region that will be affected by the disconnection of the supply will be notified by the corporation in advance, using various communication media, and upon completion of all works, the electricity supply will be reconnected.

Registered BPC Online User
- Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) subscribers who have been granted authorization to access the BPC online service platform can file the request, by visiting the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) website then select, “Customer Service” option located on the menu bar, then select “Online Services” on the drop-box, and then select “Discontinuation of Electricity Supply” on the extended menu.
- You will be redirected to the Discontinuation of Electricity Supply online page.
- Log in with your credentials (password and username), fill out all mandatory fields, and upload all requested supporting documentation.
- Please ensure that all the information and documents are in order, before clicking on the “Submit” button.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the customer care officer will verify if all the information and documentation are in order, before submitting the request for assessment and processing by the BPC technical team.
- Applicants will be issued with a BPC acknowledge receipt, this receipt will serve as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
- The technical team will be sent to the premise where the service is required and disconnect the electricity supply.
Unregistered BPC Online User
- Unregistered online user, can also file their application using the online platform, visit the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) website then select, “Customer Service” option located on the menu bar, then select “Technical Services” on the dropbox and then select “Shutdown Request” on the extended menu, then select either “Shutdown Request by a consumer” or “Shutdown Request by a registered consultant” option.
- You will be redirected to the Shutdown Request by a consumer page or Shutdown Request by a registered consultant page.
- Accurately fill out the request form and upload the supporting documentation as listed on the site. All fields with a red asterisk are mandatory and should be filled, any omission of such information and documentation will render the application process incomplete and submission of the request will not be possible.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the customer care officer will verify if all the information and documentation are in order, before submitting the request for assessment and processing by the BPC technical team.
- Applicants will be issued with a BPC acknowledge receipt, this receipt will serve as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
- The technical team will be sent to the premise where the service is required and disconnect the electricity supply.

EligibilityEdit
- Residence or Registered businesses/companies, who have an account with the BPC and wish to discontinue the services are eligible to apply.
- The Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) may also disconnect the electricity supply when it sees the need.

ValidityEdit
- In the case where the disconnection of the supply is enforced by the BPC due to various reasons, reconnection of electricity supply will be immediate, upon completion of all works by the corporation technical team.
- In the case where the request to disconnect the supply was made by a consumer, the reconnection of the electricity supply will only take place upon request by the consumer and on payment of a fee prescribed by the Corporation.

Important Notes:
Refund of the Deposit Fee.
- Any sum deposited by the consumer or on behalf of him/her, during the connection electricity supply process, will be reimbursed back to the account holder after deducting any amount due by the consumer to the Corporation, upon request for the disconnection of the electricity supply services by the consumer, thus terminating the contract between the consumer and the corporation.
- Any person claiming a refund of a deposit shall either:
- Surrender the receipt which was issued on payment of the deposit. OR
- If such receipt is not available, sign a receipt prescribed by the Corporation for the refund to him of such deposit or part thereof, and satisfy the Corporation that he is the person entitled to such refund
