Apply In Person

  1. A Death notification for an active member shall be made to the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) office not later than 60 days from the date of death of member.BPOPF Contact Details
  2. The death notification should be made by kin of the deceased member, visit the nearest BPOPF office and express your interest to the pension funding unit, the applicant will be issued the Death Notification for Active Member form and advised on the steps to take in order to complete the form, or download it via the BPOPF website BPOPF Downloadable, or directly download it using this link Death Notification for Pensioners and Deferred Pensioners form
  3. The duly completed application form attached to the relevant supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, should be submitted to the BPOPF pension funding unit. Any omission of the required documents or information will render the application process incomplete.
  4. Upon submission, the application is checked for completeness and correctness by the BPOPF pension unit officer, if everything is in order the applicant is issued with an acknowledgment slip that proves submission of the application file and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
  5. A BPOPF/Employer undertakes investigations that will determine the apportionment of the member’s accumulated pension to the beneficiaries.
  6. The next of kin (beneficiary) will be contacted by a BPOPF/Employer and given further instruction on how the reimbursement (Survivor Benefits) will be made.

  • Proof of earnings (Payslip) of the deceased member.
  • Deceased’s Omang / Proof of age.
  • Marriage Certificate / Proof of customary union (wife of the deceased, if married).
  • Spouse’s Omang / Proof of age.
  • Beneficiary's proof of age (Birth Certificate / Omang).
  • Guardian’s Omang.
  • Nomination of beneficiaries form (if completed).

Survivors Benefit
This benefit is paid to the Dependent (s) / relative(s) of a deceased member. The dependent relatives qualify for this benefit in the following order:

  • The husband/wife of the deceased member.
  • All children irrespective of age or gender (if the husband/wife of the deceased member is also deceased, or if the deceased member was a single parent).
  • The parents of the deceased (if the deceased member was not married and had no children)
  • Sisters/brothers of the deceased (if the deceased was single, had no children, and both parents are deceased)
  • The guardian to the children of the deceased member (where both the parents are deceased and all the deceased members’ children are minors)
  • An applicant who has letters of administration (where all dependants are exhausted)
