Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. The application for Change of Trade Name for Pest Control Product shall be made to the Agrochemical registrar's office in Sebele/ Gaborone, who is appointed and works under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security office.Ministry Contact Details
2. The applicant shall make an application in writing in the prescribed form as determined by the Registrar, copies of these forms are available for free at the Agrochemical registrar's office in Sebele/Gaborone.
3. The duly completed application form shall be accompanied by the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, should be submitted to the Registrar's office. Any omission of the required information and documents will render the application process incomplete.
4. Upon receipt of the application, the Registrar will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
5. The applicant shall be required to submit a sample of the pest control product.
   • A sample of the technical grade of its active ingredient.
   • A sample of the laboratory standard of its active ingredient.
6. If the registrar is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application for the license, the application is registered for processing and consideration.
7. Applicants will be required to pay prescribed fees and obtain a payment slip and an acknowledgment slip as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
8. The registrar may request additional information relevant to the application. In such a case, the information must be submitted within the stipulated time from the date of notification. Where the applicant fails to submit the required information, the registrar shall reject the application.
9. The Registrar shall consult the licensing committee and shall consider the application if it is satisfied with the quality, safety, efficacy, and economic value of the pest control product, shall register the pest control product new trade name, and issue a certificate of registration.
10. Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the applicant in writing.
11. If the Registrar is not satisfied as to the safety, efficacy, quality, and economic value of the pest control product, the Registrar may after providing an opportunity for the applicant to be heard, reject the application for the registration of the pest control product and inform the applicant the reasons for the rejection in writing.
12. While collecting the modified certificate of registration, the applicant will be required to produce proof of identification, approval letter and acknowledgment letter to be validated by the registrar at the ministry office.

Please Note: Trade name to be in use Six(6) months after approval to allow exhaustion of old stock.

• An original consent letter from the manufacturer/principal
• A copy of the draft label as per Ministry requirements,
• Proof of licensing as a dealer with Pest Control Products by Ministry
• proof of identification
• Evidence from Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) that the new trade name is available for use.
• Any other information may be required by the Registrar.
