Apply In Person Duplicate Registration Book
- Where a registration book has been lost, destroyed, or defaced, or the particulars thereon have become illegible, the owner of the vehicle shall apply for a duplicate with the Director of the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) Office. - The owner of the vehicle or an authorized person should first visit the local police station to report the lost logbook and obtain a police abstract.
- The Applicant should then make the application for a duplicate, which shall be made in writing using a prescribed form only obtainable at any of the Department of Road Transport and Safety Regional Offices, Vehicle Registration and Licencing section.
- Upon obtaining the application form, the applicant should legibly complete the form, attach all the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit the complete application file to the nearest regional DRTS, Vehicle Registration, and Licencing section for consideration. Any omission of the required documents or information will render the application process incomplete.
- The application shall be accompanied by a prescribed fee of BWP 84.50, all payments should be made as per the Authority's preferable payment mode.
- Upon receipt of the application, the DRTS licensing officer will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
- If everything is in order, the application is registered for assessment, processing, and consideration which is usually within a day.
- After the successful documentation evaluation phase, the licensing officer shall cancel and destroy the registration books which are either destroyed, or defaced, or the particulars thereon have become illegible, and draw up a new vehicle registration booklet to be issued to the client.
- The DRTS, Vehicle Registration, and Licencing officer shall furnish the Director with details of the contents of every duplicate registration book and the Director shall enter those details in his records.
- Where any registration book which has been lost is subsequently found such book, or the duplicate thereof, shall forthwith be returned to the DRTS, Vehicle Registration and Licencing office for cancellation and destruction.
- The time frame for processing the application is usually within a day.
Duplicate Number Plate
- Where a Vehicle registration plate has been defaced, stolen or the particulars thereon have become illegible, the owner of the vehicle is first required to report the incident with the local police and present the original vehicle registration booklet to be validated and obtain a police abstract/report.
- Once issued the police abstract the applicant is required to apply for replacement of the number plate with the Director of the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) Office.
- The application shall be made in writing using a prescribed form only obtainable at any of the Department of Road Transport and Safety Regional Offices, Vehicle Registration and Licencing section.
- Upon obtaining the application form, the applicant should legibly complete the form, attach all the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit the complete application file to the nearest regional DRTS, Vehicle Registration, and Licencing section for consideration. Any omission of the required documents or information will render the application process incomplete.

- The DRTS, Vehicle Registration, and Licencing officer shall furnish the Director with details of the contents of every application for a replacement of a number and the Director shall enter those details in his records.
- Where any number plate which has been lost is subsequently found, or the duplicate /replaced thereof, shall forthwith be returned to the DRTS, Vehicle Registration and Licencing office for cancellation and destruction.
- The time frame for processing the application is usually within a day.

Duplicate logbook
- Application form for the duplicate logbook signed and stamped in case of a company
- Police report in case the logbook was stolen or lost and if damaged, the applicant will surrender the damaged logbook.
- Copy of the identification document.
- Authorization letter from the vehicle owner (where applicable)
- Payment slip for the duplicate fees.
- Any other supporting information document relevant to the application as requested by the Authority.
