  1. To apply for World War II (WW II) Veterans Allowance, applicants should first Visit the local tribal administration office (Kgotla) and request a declaration letter confirming the veteran's participation in the war. (Address details are listed below under the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below).
  2. Upon obtaining the declaration letter, applicants are required to gather all the supporting documentation (listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page) and head to the District Commissioner's office, social service unit, and request to be enrolled into the veterans' pension program. (Address details are listed under the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below).
  3. The social service officer will then verify that all the necessary documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before issuing the applicant the Registration of Beneficiary Form. The application form is not available online, and you can only get it at your nearest Social service office.
  4. Please note that this form must be completed and signed in the presence of the District Commissioner or authorized official at the District Commissioner's office.
  5. The completed Application form, attached to the supporting document should be submitted to Social Protection Department office or social service unit at the district council offices. Use this link to view the District Councils and Sub District Council offices address Link
  6. The officer shall verify that all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before the applicant bio-data is captured for the vetting processing to begin. During vetting, applicants will have to go through a community validation exercise before the first payment cycle.
  7. Note; applicants will be required to Indicate preference of payment either through the 12-months voucher book at the post office / Tribal administration office in his or her area or monthly bank transfer.
  8. After the lapse of the vetting period (usually one month). Check the outcome of your application, at the office in which the application was made, if approved you will be issued registered as a beneficiary.
  9. Following registration beneficiaries of the program will have a choice on how their wish to access their allowance as:
  10. Cash from Pension Officers at the Tribal administration office (Kgotla)
  11. Cash from Post Offices in areas where they are available
  12. Bank credits in beneficiaries bank accounts
  13. Beneficiaries who prefer to be paid their allowance in cash are issued with order books after four weeks. Beneficiaries are expected to present their order books during payment.
  14. Beneficiaries who prefer to be paid their allowance in Bank credits, there will be required to open a bank account, if they do not have an account with the designated Payment Service Providers (PSP) who handle the cash transfer and present the bank account details to be registered by the Social Protection Department office.
  15. A beneficiary who is unable to collect their veterans' allowance due to; (Ill health, Old Age, or physical disability), may appoint any person of his/her choice, preferably a relative to receive the allowance on their behalf. The Proxy must produce his/her Omang get the allowance.
  16. Payments are usually made after one month or 12 months currently; the pension allowance is BWP 600.00 per month. This is subject to constant review.

EligibilityEdit

Applicants who meet the following requirements are eligible;

  • Botswana citizens with a valid national identification card (Omang) who participated in World War I or World War II.
  • Spouse(s) of a deceased veteran who participated in the wars and has not married another man who ever participated in the World Wars following the death of the veteran husband or wife.
  • A deceased veteran's child under 21 years of age whose mother is also deceased.

ValidityEdit

The grant/ allowance will lapse in the following circumstances:

  • Veteran dies and he has no eligible beneficiary i.e {living spouse(s) or child under 21 years of age whose mother is also deceased}
  • The spouse (s) of a deceased veteran dies and has no child under the age of 21 years
  • Children of the deceased veteran and his spouse who are over the age of 21 years

Life Declaration 
A beneficiary who receives the allowance through bank credit or proxy is required to make a life declaration once every six months, failing which the payment is automatically suspended until he/she declares, in which case he/she would be entitled to arrears.
