Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. The application to be registered for Tertiary Education Funding, which is a service under the Rural Area Development Programme, shall be made to the Botswana urban and district council (local authorities) Office. Local Authority Contact Details
2. Interested applicant should visit the local authority Office, Social and Community Development (S&CD) Unit within their jurisdiction with supporting documents and express their interest in accessing education benefits under the Rural Area Development Programme.
3. When applying for funding, applicants are asked to be mindful that different institutions have varying registration deadlines.
4. The S&CD officers would then provide the applicant with information on varying tertiary education institutions, including application forms.
5. The applicant will be required to complete the application forms for the preferred institution, attach copies of the supporting document and submit them to the S&CD office before the preferable institution registration deadline.
6. Upon receipt of the application file, the S&CD officer will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the application file.
7. Applicants will then be issued with an acknowledgment slip or reference number to note as proof of submission of the application.
8. The officers would then prepare cover letters, attach the application files and dispatch them to the preferable institution and the Department of Tertiary Education and Funding (DTEF) office within a reasonable time, for assessment, processing, and consideration, which is within 3 weeks.
9. After the lapse of the processing time, the applicant should visit the specific Social and Community Development office (S&CDO), where the application was lodged.
10. If approved the applicant will be registered as a Rural Development Area citizen beneficiary and given further instruction with the S&CD office.
11. Funding will be directly deposited to the tertiary institute bank account, where the children from the remote areas attend.

• Citizens or residents, living in any of the 6​9 Settlements Qualified under the Rural Area Development Program are eligible to apply.
