Apply In Person

  1. When an active member or pensioner passes on, the whole benefit is paid out to the beneficiaries by the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) office upon notification by the deceased kin. BPOPF Office Location and Contact Details
  2. The death notification shall be made in writing using the relevant prescribed form, obtainable at the BPOPE regional offices or download it from the BOPOE website BPOPE Forms or directly download it using this link:
  3. Upon obtaining the relevant notification form complete it accurately, attach all the supporting documents as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit them to the BPOPE regional office for evaluation and processing.
  4. On submission of the application file, the receiving officer will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
  5. A BPOPF Employer undertakes investigations that will determine the apportionment of the member’s accumulated pension to the beneficiaries.
  6. Once the beneficiary has been approved by the BPOPE, he/she will be required to provide the BPOPE office with his/her bank account details, which the BPOPE will use to remit the survivor benefits.

  • Duly completed and signed:
  • Original death certificate of the deceased member or original court Decree where the member is presumed dead
  • Original death certificate of eligible dependents relatives who are deceased
  • A copy of the deceased identity card
  • A copy of the claimant(s) identity card)
  • Beneficiaries' proof of age (Birth Certificate / Omang)
  • Certified copy of the marriage certificate or other evidence of marriage in case the deceased was married
  • Any other supporting as may be requested by the Authority.

EligibilityEdit

The following list is the Order of Eligibility:FIRST- SPOUSE/ SPOUSES

  • Husband/ wife(s) and
    • Minor children below 18 years (old fund)
    • Children below 25 years of age (new fund)
    • Minor children or those below 25yrs and are certified to be suffering from mental incapacity shall be paid through guardians.


SECOND ALL CHILDREN

  • Where both parents are deceased (Minor Children will be paid through the guardian)


THIRD BOTH PARENTS

  • Where the deceased member was NOT married and had no children


FOURTH BROTHER/SISTER

  • Where a deceased was NOT married, had no children and both parents are deceased.


FIFTH GRANDPARENTSSIXTH -OTHERS/NEXT OF KIN

  • Any other applicant must prove dependency and shall submit a confirmed Grant letter of administration with respect to deceased members' Benefits.
