Apply In-Person

  1. The application to be registered for School Transportation, which is service under the Rural Area Development Programme, shall be made to the Botswana urban and district council (local authorities) Office.Local Authority contact details
  2. Any Interest parent/guardian should visit the local authority Office, Social and Community Development (S&CD) Unit within their jurisdiction, two (2) weeks prior to the beginning of the school term and express their interest to be registered with the program to the social and Community Development (S&CD) officer.
  3. Submit the supporting documentation to be validated by the S&CD office, the applicant will then be required to verbally provide the S&CD Officer with the children's and parents`/guardian names, home address, school address, and parents`/guardian contact information, this information will be recorded social inquiry form on behalf of the applicant by the S&CD Officer for assessment and processing by the S&CD office, which is within 3 working days.
  4. If approved the child will be registered as a beneficiary of the program and the parent/ applicant will be notified via phone or in person.
  5. The S&CD Officer would later advise the parents/guardian of their children collection time and location where they are to be collected.

  • Citizen and residents enrolled in a school, living in any of the  ​6​9 Settlements Qualified Under the Rural Area Development Programme are eligible apply.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • The School Transportation (Rural Area Development Programme) is an initiative by the Botswana Government that aims to ensure that children who are beneficiaries of the program, living in the remote areas are entitled to free transportation to and from their boarding schools to enable them to have equal access to education.
  • These remote areas are determined by the challenges found in their actual location, conditions of the roads and accessibility to public transport.
