Apply In-Person

  1. Applicants who intends to stage a recreational fishing competition shall file the application for Recreational Fishing License or Permit to the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Department of Wildlife and National Parks office (DWNP), (Address detail is mentioned under office locations and contact section below).
  2. Collect the ‘Recreational Fishing License application form’ at the Department of Wildlife and National Parks office front desk or use this link to downloadLink
  3. Submit the completed form along with the supporting documents (as mentioned under required document section below) to the department office, at least two months before the date of such competition/activity.
    • Please note: Those who wish to fish at the camps/lodges should bring the letter from the camp and for the dams they need the entrance permit from Water Utilities Corporation
  4. The attending official will then verify that all the necessary information and documents have been provided, if everything is in order, the application file will then be forwarded to the licensing office for assessment, processing and consideration.
  5. If approved the license/permit will be signed by the Director/authorising and the DWNP stamp will be affix on the license and made available, for issue to the applicant within the course of the day, upon payment of the recreational fishing permit/license.


NOTE;

  • The permit/license shall be subject to such terms and conditions as the Director deems fit to impose in each case, and such terms and conditions or requirements shall be endorsed on the permit.

  • Citizens and Non-Citizens who are 18 years of age and above who wish to fish for recreational/sport purposes are eligible.

  • Non-Citizens BWP300.00 (Monthly), BWP600.00 (Annually)

IMPORTANT NOTE;

Appeals to the Minister
Any person who is aggrieved by the refusal of the Director to grant a permit, or by any terms imposed by the Director to grant a permit, may appeal against the refusal or the terms and conditions to the Minister within 30 day

Recreational fishing shall be done-

  • On a catch and release basis; and
  • Using a single fishing rod, line or hook.

  • The Recreational Fishing license/permit is granted to those who wish to fish for recreational/sport purposes. In Botswana, open fishing season is between March 1st and December 31st annually. Fishing is allowed in all water bodies.
