Apply In-Person

  1. The application for Permits or license for Dried Grains shall be made to the Department of Agribusiness Promotion District office. Agribusiness Promotion District office contact details
  2. Submit all the relevant supporting documentation as mentioned under “Required Documents” to the District office. The licensing officer will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before completing the permit form, with specific details outlined below as provided by the applicant:
    • Applicant contact details
    • Quantities and type of crops to be imported.
    • Border post of entry.
    • Country of origin of import.
    • Endorsement at the border post by Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS).
  3. The permit will then be issued and stamped by the licensing officer and issued to the applicant immediately.
  4. These permits are valid for 30 days. Clients are required to return a copy of the expired permit to the issuing office to be kept on record.
  5. Any person who is aggrieved by the refusal of the authorized officer to issue him/her with a permit may appeal to the Minister of Agriculture whose decision thereon shall be final.
Please note: Importation of quantities NOT more than 25kg do not require an import permit for Individuals.

  • A certified copy of a valid National Identification card (Omang) or a passport for non-citizens for company
  • An original and valid Hawkers
  • Trading License for companies
  • A letter of Authorization to apply on behalf of the Company
  • An original and valid Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Certificate
  • A valid Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) Certificates
  • Invoice for Proof of local purchase and should be at least three months to the date of application.

InstructionsEdit

Any person applying for an import permit for dried grains shall produce to the authorized officer, such information or documents as the officer may require, proving that at least the below the percentage of product which is the subject of his or her application, was obtained in Botswana.

  • 30% of the maize grains
  • 70% of the maize meal, samp, maize rice, or animal feed for poultry and livestock
  • 50% of the sorghum grain
  • 70% of the sorghum meal, sorghum rice, or any other processed sorghum product

  • The mailing address of importing person/company
  • Name of exporting person/address
  • Address of exporter/supplier in exporting country
  • Point of entering produce
  • The final destination of the produces
  • Name of the product, quantity
  • Signature of the applicant
  • Physical Address, email, phone of the applicant

This permit enables Importers and Exporters to import/export the following dried grain products; (grain-based animal feed for poultry and livestock, sorghum & sorghum products, maize & maize products, millet and millet products, wheat grain, pulses (castor beans, groundnuts); and sunflower seed) in and from Botswana.
