Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. An application for a Permit or License to Export Firearms should be made to the police station in the district in which the applicant carries on business or normally resides. Botswana police service contact details
2. Applicants will be required to collect and complete the Application for Export Permit for a Firearm, these forms are available at any of the Botswana Police Station countrywide, or directly download it using this Application Form for Export Permit for a Firearm.
   • Please note: the licensing officer may require the production of the arms, to be export for ascertaining.
3. The duly completed application form should be submitted in duplicate with the attachments to the nearest licensing office at the police station within the applicant parish, for processing and consideration.
4. On receipt of the application file, the licensing officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided, the licensing officer will only approve the issue of the permit/ license, if he/she is satisfied that;
   • The applicant owns an arms license for the arms in question.
   • The arms in respect of which the application is made are in good working order.
5. If satisfied that all the conditions are met, the permit will be drawn up signed and stamped by the licensing officer, and issued to the applicant against his/her identification document within the day.
   

Appeals

• Where any person is aggrieved by the refusal of issue of any license, certificate, or permit, he/she may appeal in writing to the Minister, whose decision shall be final.
• Notice of appeal specifying the grounds thereof; shall be lodged to the Commissioner office within 14 days after the date on which the appellant first received notice, whether written or oral, of the decision by which he is aggrieved and the Commissioner shall cause the notice of appeal to be sent to the Minister without delay.

Fees

No fee associate with the service.

Validity

The temporary export permit of the firearm is valid for 6 months from the date of issue.
