Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To request for Map and Geospatial Data Service the application file should be submitted to the offices of the Department of Surveys and Mapping in Gaborone, Francistown, Selebi Phikwe, or Maun, which is under the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services office.Ministry contact details
2. For standard maps, visit the Department of Surveys and mapping offices within your jurisdiction in person and submit the request letter within the jurisdiction.
3. For Special maps and map extracts of geospatial data, the request letter can be submitted either in person, by email, post, or fax to the Department of Surveys and Mapping offices within the jurisdiction.
4. All online transfers such as file transfer protocol or drop-box addresses should be provided.
5. Upon receipt of the request, the Department prepares a quotation and issue it to the client in person or send it to the client either by post or email or fax, or drop-box or file transfer protocol, etc.
6. The client will be required to make payment against the quotation either at the cash desk at the department office and obtain a payment receipt; or electronic fund transfer or using a government voucher, which can be picked up at the Department of Surveys and Mapping offices.
7. For Payments that are made electronically, the proof of payment must be verified independently from the Ministry of Finance to the Department before the request data (Completed orders) can be sent to the client after processing.
8. It is only after the deposit of the complete file and the payment of the required fee that your request will be registered for processing.
9. Applicants will be issued with an acknowledgment letter as proof of submission of the application; if the request is submitted in person.
10. The Completed orders (Requested data), in hard copy or digital formats will be issued to the client either in person at the Department of Surveys and mapping, dispatch office or sent by post, or email or drop-box or file transfer protocol as to the customer preference.

Processing Time

• Standard map series maps and data layers from the database can be provided to customers within one working day.
• User-defined or custom maps and data requests can be provided to customers within ten (10) working days.

This service helps customers to obtain information on maps such as topographic line mapping, thematic, and orthophoto maps at varying scales as well as geospatial data such as geographic coordinates, geographic data layers, aerial photographs, digital elevation models, and remote sensing data at varying spatial and temporal resolutions can be obtained from the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services Department of Surveys and Mapping.
