Apply In-Person
- To apply for Firearm and Ammunition Dealers Permit/license, applicants should visit the Licensing office at the police station in the parish, where the firearm and ammunition dealer business/company is located, and express their interest. Botswana police service contact details Link.
- Applicants will be issued with an Application Form for Arms and Ammunition Dealer's Licence or Renewal of Licence, Application forms are available from any Botswana Police Station office countrywide, or directly download it using this Application Form for Arms and Ammunition Dealer's License or Renewal of License Link
- For a first-time application, the applicant should, visit the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), Botswana Police Service office first and have their fingerprints taken and obtain a police clearance report/certificate.
- The duly completed forms in triplicate, along with the attachments as mentioned below under the “Required Documents” section, should be submitted to the licensing office, at the police station nearest to the applicant's place of residence, applicants will then be issued with an acknowledgment letter as proof of submission of the application.
- On receipt of the application file, the licensing officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided, the licensing officer will then conduct due diligence and decide if to approve or deny the permit request.
- The licensing officer shall not approve the processing of the permit application unless he/she has personally interviewed the applicant and is satisfied that the applicant;
- Is of sound mind, temperate habits, and of good character without any serious criminal conviction.
- is not less than 21 years of age;
- If the licensing officer approves the processing of the application, he/she will sign, stamp the application form and forward the application file to the police commissioner's office for further assessment and processing.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the police commissioner will review the file and, as soon as practicable, forward the application file, together with his/her recommendation thereon; to the ministry office for final decision making by the minister or authorized official
- If approved, the permit will be drawn up, as directed by the minister, signed, and stamped by the licensing officer, once notified of the approval by the ministry office.
- The permit/license will then be made available for withdrawal by the applicant at the specific licensing office, where the application was lodged, upon payment of the permit fee and against the applicant identification document and the acknowledgment letter.
Appeals
- Where any person is aggrieved by the refusal of issue of any license, certificate, or permit, he/she may appeal in writing to the Minister, whose decision shall be final.
- Notice of appeal specifying the grounds thereof; shall be lodged to the Commissioner office within 14 days after the date on which the appellant first received notice, whether written or oral, of the decision by which he is aggrieved and the Commissioner shall cause the notice of appeal to be sent to the Minister without delay.
