How to Apply
Apply In Person

  1. To obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), the applicant should visit the CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY OF BOTSWANA {CAAB) head office to apply. Please view the CAAB contact details via this link:Link
  2. Applicants are required to complete and submit the prescribed APPLICATION FOR COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE (A & H) FORM, forms are available for free at any of the CAAB offices or directly download it via this link;Link (Application form)
  3. The completed application file is to be submitted to the CAAB head office, for consideration, only if the applicant is a holder of a valid medical certificate or after ascertaining that your medical assessment has been assessed as “fit” by the Civil Aviation Medical Board (CAMB). This will be certified in the appropriate section of the application form.
  4. The CAAB agent will verify if all the required documents and information have been provided, and if the application is compliant if everything is in order, the application file will be registered, upon paying the prescribed fee, as mentioned under the “FEE” section of this page.
  5. Applicants will then be issued with an acknowledgment letter, containing details of the application.
  6. The application file will be assessed and processed by the registration and licensing unit, based on the information and documents that have been provided and if complying;
  7. Applicants will then be required to book and take CPL Botswana Air law Examinations (theory and flight test) with an appropriately approve Botswana Delegated Examiner.
  8. Only after successfully passing the Botswana Air law Examinations, will your application be approved and you will be notified when the license is ready for collection by phone or mail.
  9. Proceed to the CAAB registration and license office and present the acknowledgment letter and identity document to be validated by the licensing office and have your photo taken, after the photo is taken, sign on the signature pad/book and collect your printed commercial pilot license at the dispatch office against your identity document.

  • Complete application form
  • A valid Medical Certificate Class 1
  • Four passport size photographs - full face
  • An original Identification Card or Passport and a copy of the same
  • Certified copies of the last 2 pages of the personal logbook. These pages show the latest flying experience certified by the pilot’s supervisor, who will certify the relevant logbook entries by endorsing his signature and license number.
  • Payment receipt of the prescribed fees
  • Any other additional documents requested for be the CAAB

EligibilityEdit

Applicants should meet the following criteria are eligible;
AEROPLANE

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
  • 200 hours Total Time
  • 100 hours as Pilot-In-Command
  • Minimum of 20 hours solo cross country
  • 10 Hours Instrument instruction time of which not more than 5 hours may be instrument ground time
  • 5 hours of night flight time including 5 take-offs and 5 landings


HELICOPTER

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
  • 150 hours Total Time
  • 35 Hours as Pilot-In-Command
  • Minimum of 10 hours solo cross country
  • 10 Hours Instrument instruction time of which not more than 5 hours may be instrument ground time
  • 5 hours of night flight time including 5take-offs and 5 landings
