PROCESS FOR CITIZENS AND NON CITIZENS OF AUSTRALIA – FOR BOTH WHO LIVE IN AUSTRALIA AND OVERSEAS:

I. Apply in Australia
a. Apply online (anywhere) - Australia Obtain Police Clearance Certificate (National Police Check) Online with Images

  2. In the given page, please complete the page prompts and hit “Save & continue” to reach next set of prompts.
  3. Applicant shall complete the verification, payment, details, instantID and result sessions one by one by using the right prompt.
  4. The submitted application will be processed by respective department.
  5. Certificate will be issued as per norms applicable.

b. Apply in person
  1. Applicant shall apply at the relevant State or Territory police service.

  4. Don’t forget to take the required copy of documents along with originals to the office.
  5. Please talk to the authority for your requirement. As per authorities advice one has to submit the application along with documents.
  6. Applicant should pay for any charges if required as advised.



II. Applying from overseas
a. Through mail
  1. Applicant shall apply through mail by completing the application form and attaching the required documents to the below given address.

  4. The certificate will be delivered to the applicant through mail at the address mentioned in the envelop while applying or it will be delivered as per norms.

EligibilityEdit

  • Applicant with valid passport and a valid address proof.
  • Age: 18 years and above. In case of minors, the application must be submitted by the parent exercising parental authority, if the minor has not turned 18 years.
  • The current address of the applicant must be same as in the passport and other supporting documents.
  • Applicants who are in need of residential status, employment or long term visa or for immigration to a foreign nation.

InstructionsEdit

Application forms are available at participating Australia Post outlets or online. Once complete, present the form along with the application fee and 100 points of identification to any participating Australia Post outlet.

For instructions on obtaining a certificate from an overseas government or law enforcement authority, refer to the relevant country information.

If you are required to provide an Australian police clearance certificate because you have spent more than 12 months in Australia within the last 10 years, you must complete the Australian Federal Police (AFP) National Police Check application form which is available from the AFP website.

For manually completed applications:

  • You must submit the form no more than three months after signing it.
  • Mark the appropriate check boxes with a cross (X).
  • Ensure you secure all paperwork, forms, payment, and identification to your application.
  • Ensure all the necessary details have been completed and the form is signed and dated.
  • The application form must be completed using block letters (ie capital/uppercase)
  • Bank cheques and money orders are to be in Australian dollars ($AUD) and are to be made payable to the Australian Federal Police.
  • If paying by bank cheque it must be from an Australian bank or financial institution affiliated with an Australian bank. Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted.
  • The correct payment must be included with all applications.
  • Do not include self-addressed/stamped envelopes for return of certificates. These will not be used or returned.

  • All other names by which you are known or have previously been known (such as your maiden name), must be provided in full, including given names. Check that your date of birth is correctly entered.
  • Full payment must accompany the application. You can pay using either Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Alternatively, for a manually completed application you may pay by bank cheque, which must be in Australian dollars, or money order obtainable from Australia Post. Personal and Company Cheques will not be accepted. Please do NOT send cash. Applications with incorrect amounts will not be processed.
  • Copies of identification documents totaling 100 points must be provided. Details of the points attributed to identification documents are provided as part of the application process. DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION.
  • Ensure all the necessary details are submitted, including signed consent and copies of identification documents. Please note parental consent will be required if the applicant is under 18 years of age.

A National Police Checks, (NPC) lists an individuals criminal and traffic court outcomes and pending charges that are deemed disclosable at the time of application. The certificate is used by many employers and licensing bodies for their screening process.

A police clearance certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a declaration of the absence of any criminal record. Police clearance certificates are different in each country and territory and may be called police certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts, pcc, etc. They are issued by police authorities or government departments and used by Citizenship and Immigration to prevent individuals who possess a risk to Country's security from entering the country.
