Australia - Apply for a Working Holiday Visa

- The applicant starts by choosing the type of working holiday visa he / she wishes to apply for. It can be either Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417) or Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462)
- After identifying the type of working holiday visa, the applicant must assess his / her eligibility for the visa. This can be done at the departments website http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages
- Gather and prepare any documentation required by the assessing authority;
- Go for medical tests and police clearance and also take the English proficiency test if it is required;
- Also make all necessary payment the application fee;
- Obtain an application form any nearby Australian embassy, consulate office or high commission or download appropriate application form from
- http://www.immi.gov.au, http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/417.aspx or http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/462.aspx.
- Read instructions on form carefully, fill it in accurately and ensure that the application form is signed and also put date.

- An applicant must have a valid passport from an eligible country;
- Ensure that you meet the age requirements;
- Must be of good character (this can be proven by provide police certificated for each place you have lived after you made sixteen (16) years);
- An applicant must have no outstanding debts;
- Applicants should not be accompanied by any dependant;
- Applicants for a first (1st) working holiday must be outside Australia when applying and when the visa is issued;
- A working holiday visa can be applied for either in Australia or outside;
- When the second (2nd) is issued an applicant must be in the same place where he / her applied for the visa;
- Applicants should ensure that they have all the required documents;
- An applicant must ensure that he / she a working knowledge of English to be eligible to work;
- An applicant must have acquired schooling after high school (post-secondary education); and
- Must also be in good character;
- All relevant documents required should be translated into English;

An Australia Working holiday visa is an authorization document issued to allow a person holiday and work in the country for up to a year. To get this Australian visa, an applicant must meet the requirements established by the Australian government. The Department of Immigration and Border Protection is the authorized Government entity that issues Australian visas. The department issues two types of Working Holiday visas and these are Working Holiday visa also known as Subclass 417 and Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462).

- It is important to note that applicants must be genuine visitors and should have enough money to cater for their needs during their stay in Australia and also purchase a return ticket.
- Before applying, cross check your passport to five out if it has the minimum required blank visa pages usually two (2) pages. Australian authorities do not give visas on extra passport sheets, thus if an applicant has no blank pages in his passport, he / she must process a new one before sending it for visa stamping.
- It is important to note that a person with a particular Australian visa can not apply for another.
- Applicants who hold registered passports of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland do not need an English proficiency test.
- The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test may be taken in your home country you can also visit the IELTS website at www.ielts.org (See resources) to find a testing location near you.
- Visa applicants must clear all their fees related to health / medical requirements
- Holders of this visa may be granted permission to work for more than six (6) months under some specialties and if granted it is always less than a month.

- It allows the hold to temporarily stay in the country;
- The holder can work for up to six (6) months in the country;
