  • To deposit your foreign marriage or civil partnership certificates, download and fill in the relevant form. You can download the forms from this site: https://www.gov.uk/deposit-foreign-marriage. Make sure that you have the supporting documents listed on the form before you pay.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Original marriage document issued by the foreign authority
  • Certified translations (if not in English)
  • One British passport. A copy certified by a U.K. solicitor or notary public is acceptable
  • two photocopies of bio data page
  • Special or recorded delivery envelope

  • To deposit a certificate - 35
  • Postage fee - 10 (if you want to have your documents returned)

InstructionsEdit

  • You cant deposit your certificate if you got married in a Commonwealth country.
  • You can deposit a civil partnership certificate from any country in the world.
  • You can also pay by postal order or bank draft made payable to FCO. Include this with your application form and supporting documents. Personal cheques are not accepted.

  • British passport number, date and place of issuance
  • full postal address of place of marriage
  • date of marriage



Need for the DocumentEdit

Only marriage that occurs in Scotland can be registered in Scotland. However, foreign marriages documents can be deposited with this office.
