Philippines - Apply for International Driving Permit (IDP)

Procedure[edit]

You are a Philippines resident. You hold a valid Philippines driver’s license (not a student driver permit). To be able to drive in almost all of the countries those are signatories to the 1949 and 1968 UN Convention on Road Traffic, you must obtain the Philippines International Driving Permit (PIDP) and the only issuing body for the PIDP is the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP). Just regular AAP members may apply for a PIDP. But don’t worry if you are not, it is automatically registered when you apply for your International Driving Permit. Please follow the below guiding to do it:

  1. Prepare the requirements:
    • Your original and copy of valid Philippines Driver’s license
    • 2 of your 2x2 or passport size coloured ID picture with white background
    • Your photocopy of the O.R and C.R of your vehicle registration
    • Your completed AAP membership application form (if applicable) or you can complete it at any AAP office.
    • Your completed Philippine International Driving Permit (PIDP) Application Form (if applicable) or you can complete it at any AAP office.
    • The additional documents:
      • Your valid proof of Overseas Filipino Workers - OFWs (if applicable) as Seaman’s Passport, Employment Contract abroad with valid POEA ID, etc. You will be waived the joining fee if you are an OFW.
      • For absentee applicants, provide an authorization letter to your representative with a valid ID
      • For foreign nationals, and dual citizens, you must present your original passport and photocopies of the pages showing date of last arrival in the Philippines
      • For permanent residents, please present your passport and your Alien Certificate Registration
  2. Apply for a PIDP
You can apply for International Driving Permit by online or in-person at any AAP office. Please remember, your PIDP is only valid when it comes with your Philippines driving license, so don’t forget to bring with you broad your license.

  4. Visit a suitable AAP office. Present the required documents and follow all of officer’s guiding to apply for your PIDP. Pay the applicable fee then waiting for obtaining your PIDP.

Note: NTC issued Memorandum Order No. 10-10-2017 last October 27, 2017, directing all telecommunications providers in the country to migrate all its customers to eight-digit telephone numbers.

A customer who still incorrectly dials the old seven-digit number will hear a special announcement saying the format has been changed to eight-digit, for a period of three months after the migration (March 18, 2019 to June 17, 2019).

Eligibility[edit]

  • Are a Philippines resident

Fees[edit]

  • Total fee for Regular PIDP 1 valid year: P3920
  • Total fee for Regular PIDP 3 valid year: P8960

Validity[edit]

1 year or 3 years but the PIDP will expire when the Philippines driver’s license expire

Need for the Document[edit]

A Philippine International Driving Permit (PIDP) allows its holders to drive private and rental cars overseas. Some countries may not require a PIDP but the car rental companies in that country may require one.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate[edit]

  • The IDP allows you to drive overseas without further tests or applications, provided your current Philippine driver's license is valid.
  • You may also need to present your IDP along with your Philippine license when renting a car abroad.
