Procedure[edit]

1.You should start by locating a nearby polling unit in your area. The unit can be located by visiting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) website http://www.inecnigeria.org/, on the website click on the button marked Polling Unit. This shall lead you to http://www.inecnigeria.org/?page_id=20, on this page, follow the steps given in order to be able to locate a polling unit in your area;

2.After locating a polling unit for registration, go to the unit with proof of age and nationality;

3.At the registration centre / polling unit, the electoral officer shall take your picture and finger prints and he / she shall assist you in filling the voter register with all the necessary information required;

4.After registration, you shall be issued with a Voter Card on the day that is communicated to you by the electoral officer;

Instructions[edit]

1.A person can register at ward or LGA where he / she holds ordinarily residence, where he / she works or where he / she originates;;

2.An applicant must not be subject to an legal inability to vote;

3.Applications must be submitted in person;

4.An applicant must be of a sound mind;

5.Foreigners cannot obtain voters cards;

6.Voters cards are obtained from the place where a person registers

7.After obtaining a voters card, a person must keep it safely;

8.A lost voters card can only be replaced upon application and upon submission of proof;

9.A person cannot register more than once;

Need for the Document[edit]

A voters card is issued to citizens of a given country to enable them participate in any organized elections. In Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission is the authority in-charge of any issues related to elections / voting. In order to obtain a voters card in Nigeria, a person must register with the commission; registration is the process of identifying citizens who are eligible to vote and involves collection and compilation of details of their personal details.
