Nigeria - Apply for a Film and Video Distributors License

Procedure[edit]

Steps for obtaining a National Distributors License.
Step I
  • Applicant is required to Purchase a set of forms from the Registration Unit of the Board at a cost of N2500.00.
Step II

Attach all the necessary documents on the Application form including the Valid Distribution agreement showing a brief plan of marketing strategy to distribute the Films and Video.

Note
  • Applicant must be a Limited Liability Company with CEO, Chief Accountant, Legal Officer as mandatory Officers.
  • The applicant must have a branch in all the Regional headquarters
  • Payment of Processing fee (N12, 000.00) at the Boards designated bank account.
  • Payment of Licensing Fee (N200, 000.00) at the Boards designated bank account.
Step III

Submit the Application form with the copies of MOA.

The following documents must be attached on the application form before submission:

  • Certified True Copy of Particulars of Directors (Form CO7)
  • Certified True Copies of Memorandum and Articles of Association (film or movie exhibition must be one of the objects of the company).
  • Evidence of Payment.
  • Evidence of N50 million bank/insurance Bond.

The Board reserves the right to investigate the financial and technical capability of an applicant to deploy service in the license category chosen.

Step IV.

The Application is processed by the Board,recommended to the Board of the commission, for onward transmission, through the Ministry of information and communication to the director in Charge of media . In Nigeria the constitution provision has the power to give the final approval for radio and Television license.

Step V.

On approval the successful Applicant is expected to pay the prescribed license fee and sign a Distributors license agreement with the secretary of Board National Film and Video Censors Board of Nigeria.

Sept VI

The issued license has a life span of 2 years and if a license is not utilized with 2 years it is revoked.

Step I
  • Applicant is required to Purchase a set of forms from the Registration Unit of the Board at a cost of N2500.00.
Step II

Attach all the necessary documents on the Application form including the Valid Distribution agreement showing a brief plan of marketing strategy to distribute the Films and Video.

Note

  • Payment of License Fee (N100, 000.00) at the Boards designated bank account

  • Evidence of Payment.
  • Evidence of N10 million bank/insurance Bond.

Eligibility[edit]

All Individuals or companies interested in the Nigerian Film and Video Distribution industry and other related communication products are eligible provided they have registered with the National Film and Video Board.



Fees[edit]

National Distributor

To Purchase a set of forms from the Registration Unit of the Board N2500.

  • Processing fee (N12, 000.00) at the Boards designated bank account.
  • Payment of Licensing Fee (N200, 000.00) at the Boards designated bank account.


Regional Distributor

To Purchase a set of forms from the Registration Unit of the Board N2500

  • Payment of Processing fee (N7,500.00) at the Boards designated bank account.
  • Payment of License Fee (N100, 000.00) at the Boards designated bank account.


Community Distributor

To Purchase a set of forms from the Registration Unit of the Board N2500.

  • Payment of Processing fee (N1, 000.00) at the Boards designated bank account.
  • Payment of License Fee (N10, 000.00) at the Boards designated bank account.



Validity[edit]

Valid for 2 years and renewal is required

Instructions[edit]

You must be willing to provide Channels of distribution and Marketing strategy for the Film and Video.



Required Information[edit]

The key information required is as follows:

1. Name of Applicant

2. Organization / Company.

3. Completed NFVCB application form (Form CO7).

4. Certificate of Incorporation with the National communication commission, if a company.

5. Certified true copy of memorandum & Articles of Association.

6. Tax Clearance Certificate

7. information on Distribution channel and Marketing strategy.

Need for the Document[edit]

There are Three categories of Distributor's as follows:

  • National Distributor
  • Regional Distributor
  • Community Distributor
National Distributor.

A National Distributor is a distributor that is registered and licensed by the Board to distribute and market Films and Video works across the country.

Regional Distributor

A Regional Distributor is a distributor that is registered and licensed by the Board to distribute and market films in states within a demarcated region.

Community Distributor

A Community Distributor is a Distributor that is licensed by the Board to distribute and market Films and Video Works within a specified State, Council Area or any settlement in the Country of not less than one hundred (100) habitants.
