Kerala - Apply for Unemployment Allowance

Apply In-Person

  1. Applicant shall apply with the local body concerned (municipal/panchayat office). Link for contact: link and link
  2. Apply with the respective form as applicable or as per the format advised.
  3. Submit the application along with required documents to the respective authority.
  4. Authorities will record the submitted application and provide the applicant with reference number for future reference.
  5. This application will be forwarded to the welfare standing committee. On verification may sanction or reject the application on merit.
  6. In most cases, an eligible candidate can receive the Unemployment allowance form the month after the application.
Note: The applicants whose applications are rejected can submit their appeal within 60 days of the receipt of the rejection memo from the local bodies to the District Collector concerned.


Required Documents[edit]

  • Aadhaar card.
  • Valid employment exchange registered card.
  • Mobile number.
  • Application form.
  • One recent passport size photograph of applicant.
  • Certificate to prove the place of residence.
  • Certificate to prove age.
  • Certificate to prove caste if they belong to reservation communities.
  • Certificates and mark list to prove educational qualification/experience.
  • In case of disabled persons, Medical Certificates to prove Disability.

  • Candidate with registration seniority of 3 years after completing 18 years of age in employment exchange.
  • The upper age limit is 35 years.
  • The educational qualification for general categories is SSLC Pass.
  • In the case of Scheduled tribe/caste candidates, they should have at least appeared for the SSLC examination.
  • Physically handicapped candidates should have attended SSLC Examination after regular schooling and should have continuous registration seniority for 2 years after attaining 18 years of age.
  • Students are not eligible for applying Unemployment Allowance Scheme.


No fees is required.


  • Valid for unemployed who has registered with employment exchange candidate whose age is less than 35.
  • Till they get employment with in the upper age limit.

  • The present monthly rate of unemployment allowance is Rs.120/- per month. But it is variable according to the decision of the Government of Kerala.
