Kerala - Apply for Next of Kin Certificate

Procedure[edit]

Next of Kin means the closest living blood relative or relatives. This certificate is required to prove that the applicant has a blood relation with that died person legally.
Apply In-Person:

  1. In order to apply for Next of Kin Certificate, the applicant has to approach their concerned revenue department office.
  2. Please go to their respective Village Officer office.

Here select “Directory” menu OR “DIRECTORY > Revenue Officers” OR “ABOUT DISTRICT > Who’s Who” OR “ABOUT DISTRICT > ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP > Wards and Panchayats” OR “DIRECTORY > PUBLICUTILITIES > Municipalities” as appropriate for the contact details.
  4. Go to the respective office. Consult with the designated authority about the applying procedure for this certificate. Collect the application form or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
  5. The application for Next of Kin(s) Certificate shall be submitted in standard format by the next of Kin(s) of the deceased person.
  6. Complete the application form. Attach the entire required document as per our “Required Documents” section and submit it to the designated receiving authority.
  7. After receiving the application, authorities will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place the application will be accepted with applicable fees as appropriate.
  8. Authorities will make entries about this application in the manual record or electronically using computer.
  9. Acknowledgement receipt will be given against every form received. So, collect it and please keep it safe for future reference.
  10. Applicant will be informed of the probable date of collecting the certificate.
  11. Designated authority will forward the application to the concerned designate authority for his report.
  12. The designated authority will verify the applicant’s details. A report will be created after verifying the details of the family members of the deceased person through field verification.
  13. This report will be sent back to the issuing authority.
  14. Based on the outcome of the above report and other internal processing the issuing authority will make a decision.
  15. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection if any will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS.
  16. If approved, the certificate will be hand delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying or issued as per applicable norms.


'Note ':
  • Certificate will be despatched or handed over directly as per the request made while applying by the applicant. Mostly handover in office will be in practice to get counter signature from the applicant for the delivered certificate.
  • Applicant may be asked to apply with the specific format as advised by the respective benefit providing government departments

  • Applicant’s Residence proof (ration card / Passport / Aadhaar card / Driving licence)
  • Applicant’s Identity proof (ration card / Passport / Aadhaar card / Driving licence)
  • Death Certificate of the deceased person
  • Self-declaration Affidavit.
  • Valid documents showing relationship with the deceased person (Pan Card - deceased person name included)
  • Up-to-date land revenue paid receipt.
  • Court Affidavit in original
  • NOK Linkage Person Documents
  • Ration Card
  • Aadhaar Card
Note:Apart from the above documents authorities may ask for additional information or documents. Please provide them for processing.

Eligibility[edit]

  • Applicant should be citizen of India.
  • Applicant should be Wife/ Husband/ Mother/ Father/ Daughter/ Son/ Brother/ Sister /Uncle /Aunty /Nephew /Niece of the deceased person.


Fees[edit]

  • Please pay as authorities quote while applying.
  • Please pay the applicable Service Charge, Printing Charge and Scanning Charge
  • For online, please pay as per prompt while processing.


Validity[edit]

  • This certificate is valid for entire lifetime.
Note: In some cases the certificate shall be issued for the specific requested purpose. This may be in view of gaining benefit by the next-of-kin of the state government servant, who die while discharging their duties.

  • Incomplete application will be rejected.
  • Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.
  • Applicant will be penalized if any information provided by the applicant while applying for this certificate is being found false or incorrect.

  • It is a legal certificate to prove the blood relationship with the deceased person.
