Honduras - Register a Death
ProcedureEdit
Death that occurred in a hospital:
- Go to the Municipal registry to register the death.
- Submit application form along with all other required documents.
- Once the authenticity of the documents are verified by the officer, he/she will make the entry in the register book of deaths in the System Civil Registry , Register of Deaths of Hondurans that occurred in a hospital.
- The officer will then print the certificate of registration of death , this will give the respondent the opportunity to review all the information in the registration certificate.
- After reviewing all the information on the registration certificate, the officer and the witnesses will sign the document to formalize the applicant's registration. In case witnesses don't know how to affix their signature, their fingerprints placed on the signature line will do.
- The death certificate will be printed and issued to the respondent , as proof that the procedure was successfully completed.
Death that occurred in a house:

Registration of an alleged death:
A case of presumed death is a situation in which a citizen is gone, but the body cannot be found. One year must first pass before declaring the citizen dead, before death registration can be filed. This procedure is done before the competent court, which will issue a Judicial Resolution recognizing that it has met the term established for the procedure and that the person concerned is actually dead.
Death that occurred on the road (with identification):
- Go to the Municipal registry to register the death.
- Submit application form along with all other required documents.
- Once the authenticity of the documents are verified by the officer, he/she will make the entry in the book of registration of deaths in the System Civil Registry, Register of Deaths of citizens found dead on the road.
- The officer will then print the certificate of registration of death , this will give the respondent the opportunity to review all the information in the registration certificate.
- After reviewing all the information on the registration certificate, the officer and the witnesses will sign the document to formalize the applicant's registration. In case witnesses don't know how to affix their signature, their fingerprints placed on the signature line will do.
- The death certificate will be printed and issued to the respondent , as proof that the procedure was successfully completed.
Death that occurred on the road (without identification):
To register the death an unidentified individual or a person killed in war or calamity. Before burying or cremating the body, the competent authority, will gather fingerprints of the deceased and forward to the decadactilar fingerprint record, along with the credit report, to the Directorate of the National Registry of Persons to aid in the registration procedure. If the identity of the deceased is established through the fingerprints, RNP will address this accordingly to the competent Civil Registry. In case the identity cannot be identified through this process entry to the registry shall be based on the report issued by the competent authority.
Death that occurred abroad:
- Go to the Municipal registry to register the death.
- Submit application form along with all other required documents.
- Once the authenticity of the documents are verified by the officer, he/she will make the entry in the register book of deaths in the Civil Registration System , Registration of Deaths deaths of Hondurans living abroad.
- The officer will then print the certificate of registration of death , this will give the respondent the opportunity to review all the information in the registration certificate.
- After reviewing all the information on the registration certificate, the officer will sign the document to formalize the applicants registration.
- The death certificate will be printed and issued to the respondent , as proof that the procedure was successfully completed.

Death that occurred in a hospital:
- Proof of Death issued by the Health Center , Clinic or Hospital (public or private)
- Identity card of the deceased
- For foreigners: passport or other identification document
- In case no legal document was required prior to registration of death , an affidavit by two witnesses must be submitted, they must present their identity card and state the following information:
- hour, day, month, year and place of death
- full name, sex, age , address and nationality of the deceased
- names , address, nationality and occupation of the parents of the deceased (in case they have these details)
- Disease or cause of death (in case they know)
Death that occurred in a house:
- Two witness that can attest about the death
- Identity card of the deceased
- For foreigners: passport or other identification document
- In case no legal document was required prior to registration of death , an affidavit by two witnesses must be submitted, they must present their identity card and state the following information:
- hour, day, month, year and place of death
- full name, sex, age , address and nationality of the deceased
- names , address, nationality and occupation of the parents of the deceased (in case they have these details)
- Disease or cause of death (in case they know)
Death that occurred on the road (with identification):
- Medical Examiner's Report or competent authority (signed and sealed).
- Identity card of the deceased
- In case no legal document was required prior to registration of death , an affidavit by two witnesses must be submitted, they must present their identity card and state the following information:
- hour, day, month, year and place of death
- full name, sex, age , address and nationality of the deceased
- names , address, nationality and occupation of the parents of the deceased (in case they have these details)
- disease or cause of death (in case they know)
Death that occurred abroad:
- Certificate of death authenticated by the Embassy of Honduras in the place/country of birth and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or apostille , as appropriate.
- If the document is written in foreign language, it must be translated and bear seal from the Foreign Affairs.
- Certification of Birth (recent) of the deceased
- Photocopy of all documents
- Application to the Director of Legal Guardian RNP
- Folders legal size and fasteners

Registration of death may be filed by the following (in order):
- Surviving spouse or domestic partner
- Ancestors and descendants (adult)
- Closest relatives of who resides in a house with the deceased
- Head of the family in whose home death occurred
- The doctor who attended the person whose death is
- Auxiliary Mayors
- Ecclesiastical authorities
- Coroners office
- Directors or managers of health centers, clinics and public or private hospitals
- Directors of Hotels, Motels, Hospice, Hotels, Care, Nursing Home, and the like
- Operators or managers of cemeteries
- Civil or military authority having knowledge of the incident
- School directors
- Directors of Detention Centers
- Diplomatic Agents or Consular officers
- Captains of ships or aircrafts
- Drivers of road vehicles

InstructionsEdit
Every birth must be registered within six months following its occurence, in the Municipal Civil Registry. Registration may be filed by the spouse or partner of the deceased, parents or children of legal age, the closest relatives, the doctor who attended the deceased, the Civil Authority Military or when the death occurs in the wilderness.

Registration of death must be done within six (6) months from its occurence. It may be registered in the:

- place of death
