Procedure

In person

1. Applications to obtain a permit to carry firearms for individuals are processed by the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Department(see contact information below).
2. Complete an application and submit it together with other required documents. You might be asked to submit a medical certificate, to check what other documents will you need to submit, get in touch with the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Department.
3. Pay the application fee.
4. It will take about 30 days for your application to be processed. The issuing authority will determine if you are fit to carry a firearm.

Online through ControlPAS

For individuals:

1. Go to www.controlpas.go.cr, and login to your account.
2. Select the service that you are applying for and complete the online application.
3. Follow the instructions on how can you submit the required documents needed before a permit to carry weapons is issued.
