ProcedureEdit

The Competency Based Assessment (CBA) Portal is an integrated electronic system to automate for managing the online delivery of assessment tools, registration of learners, and uploading of assessment outcomes\scores by schools by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). KNEC Contact Details

Apply Online

  1. Registered schools should access the CBA Portal using the web address CBA Website or KNEC Portal, using any of the following recommended browsers; (Internet Explorer or Mozilla or Chrome).
  2. Enter the KNEC School Code as the Username and the Password which they use during the KCPE Examination Registration name and password and then click on “Log In” to access the school portal.
    • Schools that have forgotten their username and password should contact the Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) for reset of passwords. Password Security. Keep It Secure, Safe, and Private. Sharing the username and password may seem harmless, but it can open up access to confidential data.
  3. For Schools that do not have a KNEC School Code, the head teacher will liaise with their respective Curriculum Support Officer (CSO) who will contact the relevant Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) for coding of the School and onward submission of the School Code details to KNEC to facilitate its activation.
  4. Upon successfully logging in, a window with a menu list of items shall open for the schools to access various functions in the system.
  5. Open the Grade/ Level by clicking the “Proceed” button to perform various tasks by selecting the specific button.
  6. To register learners from other schools, click on the “Add Learner from Another School (Transfer) button.
  7. On the next window, enter the learner’s assessment number, to view the learner’s details and transfer, then click on the “Transfer” button, to initiate the transfer process.
    • Where the Leaner’s assessment number is unknown, use the previous school code to search and acquire the learner’s assessment number.
  8. The headteacher where the learner/student is currently registered will be required to accept/decline the transfer request to complete the request.
  9. The requested transfers for learners to other schools shall be viewed under the “Transfer Requests for the Specific Grade/ Level” tab located on the top right.
  10. To Accept the Transfer of a learner to another school, click on the “Accept” button. Learners whose transfer has been accepted shall automatically be removed from the current school list and transferred to the other school.
  11. To Decline the Transfer of a learner to another school, click on the “Decline” button, the applicant will then be prompted to select /specify the reason for the decline.
  12. No fees are associated with this service and the time frame for processing the request/application is within a few minutes.
  13. Users should ensure they log out of the system when they are done with the application process. This is to avoid unauthorized access to a third party(s) who may manipulate the information.
