Kenya - How to Progress Learners or Students to a Higher Level or Grade in the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Competency Based Assessment (CBA) System

The Competency Based Assessment (CBA) Portal is an integrated electronic system to automate
for managing the online delivery of assessment tools, registration of learners and uploading of assessment outcomes\scores by schools by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Apply Online
- Registered schools should access the CBA Portal using the web address: CBA Website or KNEC Portal, using any of the following recommended browsers; (Internet Explorer or Mozilla or Chrome).
- Enter the KNEC School Code as the Username and the Password which they use during the KCPE Examination Registration name and password and then click on “Log In” to access the school portal.
- Schools that have forgotten their username and password should contact the Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) for reset of passwords. Password Security. Keep It Secure, Safe, and Private. Sharing the username and password may seem harmless, but it can open up access to confidential data.
- For Schools that do not have a KNEC School Code, the head teacher will liaise with their respective Curriculum Support Officer (CSO) who will contact the relevant Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) for coding of the School and onward submission of the School Code details to KNEC to facilitate its activation.
- Upon successfully logging in, a window with a menu list of items shall open for the schools to access various functions in the system.
- Open the Grade/ Level by clicking the “Proceed” button to perform various tasks by selecting the specific button.
- Click on the “Progression of Learners” button to view and move a learner (s) by selecting the desired Level/Grade.
- Users should ensure they log out of the system when they are done with the application process. This is to avoid unauthorized access to a third party(s) who may manipulate the information.
