Procedure

Apply Online

1. To apply for Upgrade the Category of Registration with the National Construction Authority (NCA), applicants are required to visit the NCA online portal
2. Once on the portal the applicant should hover the mouse cursor over the “Upgrade/Downgrade of Contractors” hyperlink on the top menu bar and click on it.
3. This will redirect the applicant to the NCA LOGIN page.
4. Applicants who are already registered as a user should log in to the portal using their credentials and proceed with the application process.
5. Applicants that do not have an account with the NCA portal, will be required to register by, hovering the mouse cursor over the “REGISTER” tab and clicking on it to proceed with the registration process.
6. Once registered applicant should log into their account with the National ID/Passport Number and password used during registration process.
7. Applicant should then click on the “LOCAL CONTRACTOR “ option, then click on the “ Certificate Upgrade” on the drop box, this will prompt a list of certificate (s) registered with the NCA that the applicant hold (s) to be display.
8. Click on the certificate that one wish to upgrade, applicant should proceed with the application process by accurately submitting/enter the information and upload all supporting documentation that will be requested before submitting the application for processing.
9. Upon approval of the online application, an invoice will be generated on your application’s status page.
10. Click “Proceed to make payments” under the contractor registration payment status section on your status page.
11. Choose your preferred payment method and proceed to make payment. At this stage follow the instructions to make payment for the license.
12. The system will verify the E-Citizen payment immediately.
13. Upon successful payment, the NCA license and certificate will be made available instantly for download.
14. Click “Generate” to view your NCA certificate(s) and annual practicing license(s). Then select “My Licenses/Certificates” to download them.
15. The timeframe accumulatively for processing this application is usually within 30 working days.

Eligibility

• An upgrade application can be sought by a contractor who in their estimation is qualified for a higher category in a given class of works.
• The contractor should be able to show verifiable signs of growth in, but not limited to the following areas;
  • An increase in professional experience in the industry,
  • An increase in equipment and assets owned by the firm,
  • Positive financials-increased turnover and cash at hand.

Fees

• Applicant will be issued with an invoice to make payment against.

Validity

• The validity of the upgraded registration certificate shall be valid forever unless cancelled or revoked by the Authority.

• Contractors should note the following:
  • An upgrade application can only be sought after a renewal application has been successfully submitted and a valid practicing license awarded in that financial year.
  • That the final approval decision for the upgrade awardment solely rests with the Authority.
  • A contractor with good reason can also request to downgrade the category in which they currently operate in.
