Apply Online

  1. A registered Kenya as a Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurse (KECHN) can make an application for registration as a Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurse (KECHN) private practitioner online, by visiting the Nursing Councils of Kenya (NCK) Online Services Portal thorough the following link: NCK Online Service Portal
    • Make sure you are eligible to make this application. The "Eligibility" requirements are mentioned in the eligibility section of this page.
  2. Upon entering the portal's homepage, log into your NCK online portal account, using your NCK registration number and password to make the registration application. If you don't have an account, you have to create one to make the registration application.
  3. For applicants who don't have an account, click on the "Create Account" Option to register for an account on the NCK online portal. This will direct you to the next page where you are to start your registration process.
  4. Under the "Register for Online Services" menu, input the required information.
    • Select "PRACTITIONER " under the "SELECT CATEGORY" option.
    • Input your "NCK Registration Number"
    • Input your ID Number
    • Input your email address
  5. Upon entering the required information for registration click on the “Register for Online Services” Tab.
    • This will cause a confirmation email address to be sent to your email address.
  6. Log into your email address and confirm your registration by clicking on the “Complete Registration” button, in the email which has been sent to you.
  7. Please edit your profile by adding your Personal, Academic and Professional details, Uploading your Photograph and Changing/Setting your password.
  8. Upon updating your profile, click on the “Private Practice” tab in the menu on the left pane, to enter into the next page.
  9. On the Private Practice application page, click on the “Make Registration Application” button to enter the next page where you are required to provide information for your application.
  10. Please provide required information for registration. These include:-
    • Practice type ( Select Enrolled )
    • Cadre (Select a Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurse (KECHN) )
    • Upload your passport photo.
    • Upload heath Declaration (Not mandatory)
    • Upload Evidence of three year practice
    • Recommendation letter from supervisor
  11. Confirm that all the information you have given is correct and click on the “Submit Application” button.
    • This will cause an invoice for payment of the registration application fees to be generated.
  12. On the Invoice page click on the “Click to Pay Now” button to pay for the registration application.
    • Proceed to make the payment using the instructions given online. The Payment instructions will be generated and displayed automatically in the portal. More information about the licensing fee to be paid is given in the "Fee" section of this page.
  13. Upon making the application payment, a payment receipt will be generated online.
    • Note: Wait for approximately 10 minutes then refresh the invoice page. After refreshing the page, you should find copies of the receipt ready to be printed.
  14. Click on the “Download Receipt” button to download the payment receipt.
    • Print the receipt and keep it for future reference.
  15. The applicant will be notified when the registration certificate is ready via telephone call and/or email after a period of two weeks. The applicant can download a copy of the Kenya Community Health Nurse private practice registration certificate from the NCK online portal.
  16. A hard copy of the certificate can be collected from the Nursing Council of Kenya offices upon receiving the notification. You need to produce proof of identity when collecting the certificate.

EligibilityEdit

A person who:_

  1. is a citizen of Kenya
  2. Is registered or licensed as a a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse under the nurses Act chapter 257
  3. Has served as a nurse for a period of not less than three years under supervision of a senior nurse of not less than seven years standing
  4. Is a holder of a registration certificate from the NCK
  5. Is a holder of such other qualification as may be prescribed by the Nurses Act chapter 257.


  • Notwithstanding, a person who is not a citizen of Kenya may be registered as a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse Private Practitioner if he satisfies the Council that-
  1. He is of good character
  2. He has paid the prescribed fees
  3. He has undergone a course of training and passed an examination, elsewhere than in Kenya, which would not qualify him to be registered or enrolled under the Nurses Act Chapter but which the Council recognizes as sufficient to enable him to practice nursing in Kenya.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Each Enrolled Community Health private practitioner Nurse in Kenya is required to be enrolled with the Nursing Council of Kenya in accordance with the Nurses Act Cap 257 of the Laws of Kenya , in order to practice nursing privately in Kenya.
  • It is an offence to practice nursing privately in Kenya without registering with the Nursing Council of Kenya as a private practice practitioner.

Note

  • A nurse issued with a registration certificate to engage in private practice under the Nurses Act cap 257 shall do the following-
  1. Write and display his name and qualifications in an unostentatious manner and in accordance with the code of professional conduct applicable to nurses:
    • Provided that a nurse shall not use any word to imply that a private clinic or a medical centre is a hospital or a nursing home
  2. Keep in his private clinic adequate stock of essential drugs and maintain an accurate record of all drugs to which the Pharmacy and Poisons Act (Cap. 244) applies
  3. Immediately notify the Medical Officer of Health in his area of practice any notifiable disease which has been treated at his clinic
  4. Where death occurs in his clinic, inform the Medical Officer of Health in his area of practice and the Officer Commanding Police Division in that area, without delay.
