ProcedureEdit

  1. Gather all documents you will need to present or submit for the procedure.
  2. Complete a notification form.
  3. Submit form along with all other required documents.

Notes:

  • Please ensure that the applicant is carrying a copy of the residence card (in cases where the one submitting the notification was just a representative of the foreign resident).
  • In cases where a notification stipulated in Article 30-46 or 30-47 of the Residential Basic Book Act was made by presenting a residence card, to the office of the municipality, then it is considered as notifying authorities of the foreigner's address and no longer requires to fulfill the notification procedure.

Foreign Residents Information Center: Information and advice service for foreign nationals. These centers are located at Regional Immigration bureaus and District Offices of Sendai, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.

Information concerning procedures for entry and stay for foreign nationals is given over the phone or by direct visit in various languages including English, Korean, Chinese and Spanish.

EligibilityEdit

A person who recently became a mid to long-term resident.


Note: In cases where a notification stipulated in Article 30-46 or 30-47 of the Residential Basic Book Act was made by presenting a residence card, to the office of the municipality, then it is considered as notifying authorities of the foreigner's address and no longer requires to fulfill the notification procedure.

InstructionsEdit

  • Notification must be submitted within 14 days from the time the address was established.
  • Submit your notification at your local municipality (to the department that is in charged with this kind of application)


Who may submit the notification:

  1. The foreign resident (except those under the age of 16)
  2. A representative:
    1. A relative aged 16 or above living together with the resident, in cases where the foreign resident is under the age of 16 years, suffers from an illness (Note 1), or is unable to apply for the residence card owing to other grounds
    2. A relative aged 16 or above living together with the foreign resident , pursuant to the request of the foreign resident (Note 2)
    3. A person who receives a request from persons mentioned in paragraph 1 or 2(1), o r the legal representative of the foreign resident


Notes:

  1. In the event of "illness", please bring the medical certificate, etc. as additional requirement.
  2. In the event of proxy by "request", please bring a letter of proxy as additional requirement.
