Apply In-Person
- To apply for the mining lease, you should visit the Mines and Geology Division under the Ministry of Transport and Mining. You can contact the Mines and Geology Division (MGD) via this link: Link
- Obtain the application form at the registry of the Mines and Geology Division in person or download it from the MGD website via this link: Link you can also download the form directly through this link:Link
- Once your application form and any relevant supporting information/documents have been completed, signed, stamped, and certified where required visit the MGD office and submit the application for verification by the MGD registry service section
- The official will check the application for accuracy and to ascertain if that the application is correct then the official will direct you to the cashier to pay the application fees
- Go to the cashier, pay the application fees, obtain the payment receipt and go back to the MGD official at the registry service desk
- The official will confirm that you have paid the correct fee and then update the file and forward the application to the commissioner and government agencies requesting their inspection of the proposed quarry site along with their recommendations.
- Upon approval from the Commissioner, the particulars of the application will be gazetted and published in a daily local newspaper at your cost for a twenty-one-day period for comments from the public concerning the application.
- After the period for comments has expired and no objections submitted, the application package is sent to the Minister with responsibility for Mining for review through the Permanent Secretary. The application can either be accepted and the mining lease granted or rejected. In cases where the application is rejected, an appeal can be made to the Minister. Once the processing has been completed, the MGD will notify you of the outcome
- If approved the MGD will prepare and grant you the mining lease and within one week of granting the lease, you will be required to submit a Guarantee or Security to the Commissioner of Mines. Note that the Letter of Guarantee should be in the prescribed form provided by the MGD

- Proof of Ownership or Access - land title or original stamped lease agreement (stamped by the Stamp Office) granting authority to access or use of the property
- Location Map: drawn to 1:50,000 scale. (4 copies)
- Location Beacon which must be erected at the northwest corner, showing: Name of applicant, Lease, Type of mineral
- Environmental Permit: approved by the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA)
- Company’s Certificate of Incorporation
- Articles of Incorporation - if the applicant is a company.
- Financial Statement - Statement of the applicant’s financial position.
- Sketch Plan: Outlining the planned operations to be undertaken and financing of said operations.

InstructionsEdit
- A mining lease shall be granted for a specified mineral only. However, the Minister may in his discretion include other minerals by endorsement on the lease. The holder of a mining lease shall forthwith notify the Commissioner of the discovery of any mineral other than that for which the lease was granted.
- An applicant for a Mining Lease, may at the discretion of the Minister, be granted Temporary Permission to Mine (TPM) for a period of one year. A TPM is normally granted to facilitate mining if for some reason the application is not complete, or mining will not commence within the next six months. The fee payable for a TPM is JMD10,000.00 and is renewable on an annual basis for the same sum.
