Jamaica - Obtain a Hotel License

Apply In-Person

  1. Application for Hotel License are made to the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) through the Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo), view the JTB and TPDCo contact details in “Office Locations & Contacts” section below
  2. Visit the TPDCo office in your location to obtain the application form for Hotel License or download it online for their website: Link (HOTEL APPLICATION FORM) you can also download the form directly via this link: Link (word document)
  3. Read and complete the application form correctly and then obtain and prepare all the required documents as outlined in the application form
  4. Once your application form and any relevant supporting information or documents have been completed, signed, stamped and certified where required, you will then visit TPDCo of to submit your complete application for Hotel Licence. Note that all requests should be addressed to the Manager of the Product Quality Unit at the TPDCo.
  5. The TPDCo will review and asses your application to determine if it meets the required standards and if all the required document provided are correct, then it will appoint an inspector to conduct an inspection on the said hotel and notify you on the inspection date.
  6. The TPDCo inspector will visit the hotel site on the appointment date and asses the both the regulatory and standards elements of the development and then forward the finding to the TPDCo.
  7. If the inspection assessment is successful, the TPDCo will process your application and present a recommendation on your application to the JTB broad at its monthly meeting for approval. Note that the JTB may decide to conduct a reinspection on the site for verification of the inspection report.
  8. Once the license is approved by the JTB, you will be notified of the grant approval then a licence document is prepared and the Hotel Licence will then be issued.
  9. Visit the TPDCo to collect your license. Note that the licence granted is subject to the terms and conditions that the Board specifies in the licence and shall be for such period as may be specified in the licence.

  • Copy of Registration of Business Name (where applicable i.e. if Business Name is different from the name of the Company)
  • Letter of “Good Standing” – Companies Office of Jamaica
  • Copy of Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN)

  • Copy of Title/Lease Agreement
  • Copy of Public Liability Insurance
  • Approval from local planning authority (e.g. KSAMC, St. James Municipal Corporation)
  • Copy of Public Health Certificate
  • Copy of Valid Food Handler’s permit(s)
  • Copy of Fire Certificate
  • Copy of Public Health Swimming Pool Permit
  • Proper Security arrangements (Copy Security Contract/ Certified Personnel)
  • Copy of PSRA Certification for security company/ personnel contracted
  • Security Approval from Resort Area Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force
  • Copy of Beach Licence from NEPA (where applicable)
  • Copy of CPR, First Aid certificates and Lifeguard licences for employees assigned as Lifeguards (where applicable)
  • Copy of Work Permit (where applicable)

InstructionsEdit

  • You are required to complete and submit the application form along with the other required documentation to the TPDCo.  In order to ensure your submissions are processed expeditiously, please verify that all the information is completed fully, and the required supporting documents/information are submitted along with your applications
  • It takes approximately one month to process your Licence as the Board of the Directors of the Jamaica Tourist Board meet once a month to review and approve Licences.  Your submission must be made in advance of the meeting usually by the first Friday of the month in order to be considered.
