Jamaica - How to Export Fresh Produce

Apply In-Person

  1. To export Agricultural Fresh Produce from Jamaica, you should contact the Plant Quarantine Division (PQD)for the export inspection. Please view the PQD’s contact details via the contacts provided in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below
  2. Contact the PQD for packing house inspection and approval of the packing house. Please refer to wiki-procedure “Jamaica-Apply for Export Packing Facility Certification from the Plant Quarantine Division (PQD)”
  3. If the packing house is approved, the Chief Plant Quarantine Officer will prepare a letter to the Export Certification Officer, JAMPRO, requesting that they proceed with the certification process.
  4. After obtaining the certification letter to present to JAMPRO, you can also register as an exporter. Please refer to wiki-procedure: Jamaica-Register as an Exporter to view the process of registration
  5. Contact the Bureau of Standards or packaging companies regarding suitable packaging for various kinds of fresh produce.
  6. Then pack the exports in the approved packing house. Note that all fresh produce must be packaged in new, clean, properly labeled bags or boxes and the labeling on packages must be the same as the information on the export documents
  7. Then Purchase and complete Export Entry Form C82, which can be obtained from the Trade Board or the Jamaica Exporter’s Association and complete all the commercial and export form i.e., goods declaration form C86 which can be obtained from the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) website:Link

  9. Then obtain the shipping or air cargo rates depending on your preferred choice of export and book for the export and provided insurance coverage for the export. You can complete Tally Sheet (by air) or Wharf/Dock Receipt and Cargo Integrity Form (by sea)
  10. Then contact the PQD for the inspection of the exports. Note that appointments for inspection must be made 24 hours in advance before the shipment is brought to the export complex or before the time when the inspector is to inspect the shipment at the packing.
  11. The PQD inspectors will inspect the export and if approved for export you will be issued a Phytosanitary Certificate and the cargo will be sealed by the QPD inspector
  12. Transport the cargo to the exit point and complete all the customs validation and have your cargo exported
