Apply In-Person

  1. To implement changing your company’s name after reserving a new name, you should visit the Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ), please view their contact details and map location through this link: Link
  2. Obtain the application form BN 5 from the front desk of the Companies Office of Jamaica or download it from their website: Link (Search for form BN5) You can also download the form directly via this link: Link
  3. Read and complete the application form accordingly, you should tick the appropriate boxes since the application form can be used to apply for other changes.
  4. Convene with the company’s director to pass a special resolution regarding the name change
  5. After passing the special resolution, have it certified by the company’s secretary or on of the directors in charge for certification and also take it to the registrar of companies for further certification at a fee
  6. Submit the complete application form to the COJ alongside required supporting documents including you Identification documents, Legal company registration certificate and Tax identification number and any other document that may be requested by the COJ and pay the application fee of $2500.
  7. Then the COJ will review your application and if correct, they will process your request to change your company’s name and overwrite the olds company name
  8. You will then be issued a certificate of incorporation on change of name and a certificate of approval of change of name
  9. You will then be required to publish a notice of the new name in a local newspaper and or gazette not more than 30 days after the approval of the name by the COJ

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Changing the name of the business means that the old name is no longer usable or recognised by COJ and it is import to register the new name as required by law. Failure to informing the COJ of the new business name can lead to tough repercussions since the business will be operating illegally and without a registered business identity
