ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for (JAMVAT) Scholarships for Tertiary Students, you should submit your application to the JAMVAT liaison officer in the respective institutions or the JAMVAT unit at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information at the address provided in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below
  2. Download the application form from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information through this link: Link
  3. Read the instructions provided in the form and complete the form accordingly
  4. Gather the required supporting documents and attach them to the application
  5. Then submit the complete application along with the required documents to the address provided in step 1 above
  6. Upon submission of the application, it will be verified by the relevant official to determine if it meets the required standards for approval
  7. Once approved, the lists of the approved applicants will be sent to participating institution
  8. You will then be notified by JAMVAT of the approval through your Email and the relevant documents including the approval letter
  9. After receiving the approval letter from JAMVAT, commence the 200 hours of community voluntary service
  10. At the placement site where you will be doing the 200 hours service, a supervisor will monitor you and at the end of the 200 hours service the supervisor must sign and seal each timecard completed by you and if the placement site does not have an official stamp, the supervisor must provide a written declaration as verification for the Timecard details.
  11. Then obtain and submit the following documents to JAMVAT for approval:
    • Time Card(s) Signed & stamped, Work/Study Agreement (completed), Bank Return Form with a seal of Branch that proves verification, JAMVAT Job Descriptionsigned & stamped, JAMVAT Essay, JAMVAT work or study your performance review, JAMVAT work or study your appraisal form
  12. Once your timecard has been verified and it is confirmed that 200 hours ofvoluntary service have been completed, JAMVAT may provide a Commitment Letter to the institution to confirm your eligibility for payment with Seven working days of the request
  13. Then JAMVAT will pay the Stipend to your account

  • Acceptance letter (No older than 6 months)for a local tertiary institution and where the intended course of study has been approved by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ)
  • Valid ID or certified copy of Birth Certificate
  • Statement of accounts or Tuition letter
  • Passport size picture
  • Tax Registration Number (TRN)
  • Complete application form


Returning Students (Continuing)

  • Status Letter (No older than 6 months)
  • Transcript (No older than 6 months)
  • Statement of accounts or Tuition letter
  • Passport size picture
  • Tax Registration Number (TRN)
  • Complete application form

EligibilityEdit

  • Tertiary students who qualify for admission, but are financially challenged to cover their tuition cost are eligible to apply

These are conditions that must be met when applying for the JAMVAT Scholarships for Tertiary Students:

  • You must be between the ages of 18 & 35 on or before December 31 of the year of application.
  • You must be a Full-Time student
  • You must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • You must complete 200 service hours upon approval of the application

InstructionsEdit

  • Incomplete applications will not be processed
  • You must complete the 200 hours service and obtain a sign and seal on each timecard or a written declaration as verification for the Timecard details for your supervisor for the place of placement
  • Stipend payments are made to accounts held at a commercial bank (NCB or BNS) in Jamaica.
  • JAMVAT payments are not transferable across academic years.
  • If your application is not approved, you can appeal the decision by writing to JAMVAT
