Procedure

Apply Online

1. To apply for the Indigenous Languages and Cultures Program (Indigenous Languages Component), the applicant can approach the Department of Canadian Heritage. Here is the contact Link
2. Click on the following link to the online login portal Link
3. If the applicant has an account, log in. If the applicant does not have an account, follow these steps:
   • On the login page, click on the “Create a personal profile” option.
   • The applicant will need to answer a few eligibility-related questions and click on submit.
   • The applicant will need to enter personal information.
   • An e-mail with a verification link will be sent. Click on the link to verify account.
4. Once logged in, the applicant will need to select the indigenous language component Grant.
5. The applicant will be directed to an application page.
6. Fill out the application form with all the relevant details.
7. The applicant will need to attach copies of all required documents, find a list of documents under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
8. Submit the application form along with the required documents by clicking on the “Submit” button.
9. Once submitted, the application form will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.
10. The applicant shall receive all communications and their results by email. It will take two weeks to process the application.

  • A signed document from the band chief or the tribal chief.
  • Band Council resolution duly signed by Chief and Council
  • Tribal Council Governance Charter of By-laws or resolution signed by Grand Chief/Chiefs

Eligibility

• The applicant must be First Nations communities, Governments, bands or tribal councils that are located in BC.
• The organization could be an indigenous cultural, language and educational centre in BC.

Fees

• The applicant does not need to pay fees.

Validity

• The program is for 1 to 2 years.
