Procedure

Apply In-Person
Transfer of permit is applicable when the permit holder dies or in case of age factor to the rightful legal heir.

1. To apply for Transfer of Truck Permit in Chandigarh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices.
   
2. Make sure you have completed application form for transfer of Truck Permit. Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees

4. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.

Validity

• Validity remains unchanged
• Usually permit is valid for 5 years
• Renewal of permit can be obtained with vehicle fitness certificate and FC as per authorities of concerned RTO.
• The age of the vehicle also limits the validity

Need for the Document

• A Regional Transport Authority may, on an application made to it under Rule 174 (iv) of the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 grant a goods carriage permit to be valid throughout the State
  
• Truck Permit is needed for a vehicle operator to ply his vehicle to carry goods from one place to another. When the permit holder demise, the permit has to be transferred to the legal heir.
  
• Vehicles with this permit……

• Be used only in a specified area or on a specified route or routes
  
• That goods of a specified nature shall not be carried
  
• That goods shall be carried at specified rates etc.
  

• The age of the vehicle should not exceed 12 years.

Information which might help

• One needs to provide the declaration to use the vehicle only for faring employees or laborers of a Company/Firm/Institute to ferry them to the place of business or back.
  
• Disproportionate asset case should not be pending against the vehicle for issue of permit.
