Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Validate or Equate Foreign Educational Certificate in Ghana, the applicant should contact the Ghana Education Service (GES) Headquarters. Contact link
2. Applicant should write to the chief executive officer request letter stating the reason for equation and give the postal address of the institution or organization which requested for the equation.
3. Information related to the AMA office and the License authority can be obtained from the “Office locations and contacts” section of this page.
4. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
5. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
6. After making the payment applicant should forward the deposit slip with the application for equation to the Equations Office, GES.
7. Applicants are advised not to pay for the service of equation before their documents are verified by the GES headquarters.
8. Applicant can request for the equated certificate to be faxed/emailed to the applicant. Applicant should provide the fax number/email address and a fee of Ghana shillings one thousand, three hundred and ninety two shillings GHS 1, 3921=) for this service.
9. Money deposited for the purpose of equating a certificate (deposit slips) are only valid if submitted to GES within twelve (12) months after banking.
10. Where necessary, the applicant requesting for equation should also provide the following documentary evidence:
    • A copy of the syllabus to show the course content.
    • A letter from the examining board/institution giving details of the mode of assessment/ evaluation i.e. Formative and/or summative assessment
11. If all the process is done, the applicant will be informed through email or mobile to collect the Certificate of Evaluation within 12 days.
12. Meanwhile, he/she can also check with the office they applied, for the progress of application.

• A leaving certificate/School leaving testimonials from the institution attended during the course for each certificate presented for equation and the preceding certificates.
• A letter by the embassy/ministry of education of the country where the certificate originated from giving a detailed report on the accreditation status of the examination board which issued the certificate.
• A copy of the syllabus to show the course content. (if requested)
• A letter from the examining board/institution giving details of the mode of assessment/evaluation i.e. Formative and/or summative assessment. (if requested)

Eligibility

• Any person in Ghana, who has a foreign qualification that needs evaluation for employment and admission purposes, can apply.
• The person applying can be a Ghanaian citizen or a foreigner residing in Ghana.
• The person applying must have a proper Identification document.

Fees

• GHS 3,480 is charged for equation of each foreign certificate.
• GHS 3,480 is charged for evaluation of each GES awarded certificate send outside Ghana.

Validity

• The Evaluation Certificate is usually valid forever and does not need renewal.
