ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Temporary Registration of a Foreign Veterinary Surgeon in Ghana, the applicant should approach the Ghana Veterinary Service offices. contact link
  2. Applicant should obtain the application form from Ghana Ministry of Food and Agriculture department.
  3. An application must be submitted to the director general.
  4. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful. A list of these documents can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  5. The applicant receives Ghana’s documentation and must then provide all the elements required to determine the adequacy of the application.
  6. Submit the completed application form and the required documents.
  7. A documentary review is carried out to determine the suitability of the file.
  8. Applicant will be required to pay the appropriate prescribed fees and submit the payment receipt. The amount of fees to be paid can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  9. If the board is satisfied that the applicant complies with the standards set out in regulations, the board will advise the applicant to pay the registration fees.
  10. After payment of the requisite fee, the board will approve the application and issue a registration certificate in Form within seven (7) days.


Note: The registration may be cancelled at any time when the Board establishes a breach of any provisions of these Regulations.

EligibilityEdit

  • A foreigner who is qualified as a veterinary surgeon in their home country and wishes to practice in Ghana with volunteer non-profit organizations recognized by the Ghana Veterinary Board, which provide veterinary services in underserved areas or go into private practice.



FeesEdit

  • Application fees for registration GHS.100, 000 (one hundred thousand). Paid Once
  • Registration fees for veterinary laboratory , GHS.10,000.Paid annually

  • The registration is valid for a period of one year.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • One needs to be registered as veterinary surgeon to be able to practice in Ghana.
  • Any person who practices veterinary medicine or surgery without having been registered by The Board commits an offence and shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months, or to both.
  • This helps to curb sub-standard facilities which spring up and lower the standards of veterinary laboratory services in Ghana.

  • A person shall apply to the Board for approval to operate a veterinary laboratory in the manner provided in Form.
  • The Board shall inspect a veterinary laboratory for purposes of registration
  • The inspection shall be done once.
  • The applicant shall specify the laboratory services he intends to offer in the veterinary laboratory.
  • The Board shall inspect the veterinary laboratory to confirm that it satisfies the standards set and on approval issue an annual license in Form 36
  • A license may be cancelled by the Board any time an inspector establishes a breach of any provisions of these Regulations.
  • A veterinary clinical center, veterinary hospital or an ambulatory service that has been licensed to operate shall not be required to make a separate application for its own in-house laboratory.
