Procedure

How to Apply:
Online Application :
Step 1: Create an Account

• Visit the ministry of foreign affairs website link below to register and create a new user account, if you do not have an account website
• A verification number will be sent to the email address/phone number you registered with to activate the account or Login in with your username and password if you already have an account.

Step 2: start your application

• Login into your account, click on start “New Application “click on “Make payment ‘then enter your “personal details’, select “Application Type” then click on “Make payment”
• You will be redirected to the payment confirmation page
• Click on “Pay “and select the method of payment you prefer.

Note: if you prefer making the payment via mobile transfer, you are required to use the same mobile number you registered your account with to make the payment.

Step 3: fill out the application form.

• Upon successfully making payment of the processing fees, the application form will be issued into your account. Click on “My Application” on the portal at the top-left corner of your screen to get access to the form.
• Read through the application form, carefully as it contain different section, then fill it and then confirm that the information are accurate.
• Sign the declaration form.

Step 4: Book an appointment with the Passport Centre Application (PCA).

• Select the Passport Application Centre (PAC) nearest to you or the one you most prefer and book an appointment date you prefer to visit the PAC office to fill the application.
• Print out the final document and take it to your guarantor to fill.

Step 5: visit the Passport Application Centre (PAC)

• Present yourself on the appointment date to the Passport Application Centre (PAC) on the specific date and time you had booked.
• Pick the control ticket service number and wait for your ticket number to be called.
• Submit the supporting document (listed below) for verification and processing, your bio-metric details (i.e. fingerprint and photograph) will be taken on site.
• You will be issued with an acknowledgement slip and the PAC official will inform you when your passport will be ready for collection.

Step 6: collect your passport

• You will receive an SMS once your passport is ready for collection. Re-visit the PAC you had file the application with, with your acknowledgement slip and ID card and claim your passport.

• You can check your passport application status by login into your account and click on “History”

Abroad Application:
In person :

1. Visit the Ghanaian diplomatic mission near you and express your interest, please note that some embassy prefer you book an appointment with them first before visiting the embassy.
2. Fill out then application form which can from the embassy officer or download it via the embassy website if available.
3. Submit the completed form along with supporting documents (listed below) for verification and processing.
4. You will be notified of the outcome, if approved you will be issued with the passport, re-visit the embassy with your identification proof document and claim your passport.

Please Note:

Some embassy offer submit/return your application by post, If this service is offered ,Applicants who wish to send their passport application(s) by post are advised to attach one of the following for the return of their processed document(s):

• A registered self-addressed envelope with the appropriate stamps (lettrerecommendée);
• A pre-paid envelope from any recognized courier service provider.

Required Documents

• Copy of first page and bio-data page which has applicant’s picture and personal information.
• Copy of valid Visa if applicant has any in Old Passport.
• Copy of last page.
• Proof of Profession if changed.

Abroad (embassy) requirement:

• Two (2) standard passport size photographs taken full face on a plain background within six months of the date of application without dark glasses or hat. One of the photographs should be certified as a true likeness of the applicant by the witness.

• Documents to support Identity (originals only) such as School Certificate, Driver's License, Employment/Student / Other I.D. Cards.:

Instructions

This application must be submitted in person by the Applicant to the Regional Immigration Office or any other office authorised to receive such an application and should be witnessed by a person in one of the following categories to whom the applicant is personally known:

• A Senior Clergyman / Woman
• A Commissioned officer of the Armed Forces (Captain and above); or persons of equivalent rank in the security services.
• A Senior Civil or Public Servant (Principal Executive Officer and above).
• A Registered Medical Practitioner.
• A Solicitor or Barrister.
• Head of a recognised Educational Institution.
• Other recognized professionals registered with their respective regulating bodies.

Need for the Document

• Ghanaian passports are passports issued exclusively by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to Ghanaians granted citizenship in accordance with the Ghanaian nationality law and is required when travelling overseas.
• A biometric passport looks like a traditional passport book, but it contains an electronic chip that is encoded with the same information. Issuable to all citizensof Ghana by Birth, naturalization, Registration, Adoption or by any Enactment
• It is valid for ten years from the date of issue and renewable when it expiry.

• Ghanaian biometric contemporary passport is hunter green in color, Ghanaian biometric service passport is cadet grey in color.
• Biometric passports contain a message, nominally from the official who is in charge of biometric passport issuance (e.g., secretary of state, minister of foreign affairs), addressed to authorities of other countries. The message identifies the bearer as a citizen of the issuing country, requests that he or she be allowed to enter and pass through the other country, and requests further that, when necessary, he or she be given help consistent with international norms.
