Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Application form for Permit for Single Import, Clear Packed Petroleum, LPG Storage Vessels and LPG Cylinders is available in the Ghana National Petroleum Authority (NPA) office Contact link
2. An applicant has to approach the NPA office and the applicants can get their application form.
3. Applicant has to enter all the information in the application form.
4. Applicant must make sure to carry all the necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
5. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant from while submitting it at the office.
6. Application fee details shall be provided by the concerned licensing officer.
7. Submit the completed forms along with the supporting documents at the respective office for verification and processing.
8. This application will be processed and the information will be verified by the NPA.
9. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
10. The applicant after seeing the notification can go to the NPA office and the applicants get their certificate.
11. The Certificate of permit will be issued within 30days.

ANNUAL PERMIT TO CLEAR PACKED PETROLEUM PRODUCTS

• Company registration documents.
• Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Completed NPA schedule for packed petroleum products.
• Certificate(s) of Quality of products from supplier/manufacturer.
• Certificate(s) of Analysis on products issued by the Ghana Standards Board (GSB).

SINGLE IMPORT PERMIT

• Company registration documents.
• Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Invoice for consignment of packed petroleum products.
• Bill of Lading for consignment of products imported.
• Certificate(s) of Quality of products from supplier/manufacturer.
• On submission of the above-listed documents (a-e) in B2, applicants will be requested to
• submit Certificate(s) of Analysis on the imported products issued by the Ghana Standards
• Board prior to the issuance of a Permit to clear the consignment.

REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN A PERMIT TO CLEAR LPG STORAGE VESSELS (VESSELS FROM 2 TONS AND ABOVE)

• Company registration documents.
• Invoice covering consignment of storage vessel(s) imported.
• Bill of Lading covering consignment of storage vessel(s) imported.
• Non Destructive Testing (NDT) report on storage vessel(s) issued by the Ghana
• Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) at the port of entry prior to clearing of the storage vessel
• A recent certificate of performance and NDT certificate/report from the supplier.

REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN A PERMIT TO CLEAR LPG CYLINDERS (CYLINDERS BELOW 2 TONS)

• Company registration documents.
• Invoice covering consignment of storage vessel(s) imported
• Bill of Lading covering consignment of storage vessel(s) imported.
• Certificate(s) of Quality of LPG cylinders from Supplier/Manufacturer.

Eligibility

A license under this Act may only be granted to:

• A citizen of Ghana or
• A body corporate registered under the Companies Code, 1963 (Act 179) or
• A partnership registered under the Incorporated Private Partnerships Act, 1962 (Act 152) or
• A foreign individual or foreign company in a registered joint venture relationship with a citizen of Ghana or a Ghanaian company. (50% Owned by Ghanaian).

Fees

• Application fee details shall be provided by the concerned licensing officer.

Validity

• License validity is for 1 year and this license is renewable annually.
